I wish I was there.

Here are some photos that my dad sent me from Thailand. It sounds like they’re having a great time so far and I SO wish I was there with them. They’ve been hanging out with family and friends and traveled to Ayutthaya and Chiang Rai already. My mom called and said that the weather has been muggy and warm but then again, when is it NOT like that over there.

Anyway, thanks for the photos and updates, Daddy! Only 2 more weeks left!!

Goodbye 2006

ch9512301.gif It’s New Year’s Eve! I don’t think I made any real resolutions this year and I don’t think I have any for ’07. Work was really stressful earlier this year but it got better by September. Home life was good but also filled with WoW and TiVo.

This was a big year for weddings… Congrats to Holly, Roy, Patty, Johnny, Derek, Elise, Bang, and Vyl. This was also a big baby year. Debbie and Johann were blessed with a baby boy, Jack, this fall and Debbie and Pish are expecting their first child (a girl!). Patti and Howard are also expecting their second child. Yay!

We spent the New Year in Thailand. We camped in Yellowstone this summer and took a week-long vacation in Hawaii with a bunch of friends too. I spent my 31st birthday in New York with Brother and had Thanksgiving at home with the family.

Now it’s the last day of the year and I’m still in my PJs. I’m not sure what we’re doing tonight but I’ll be sure to make the most of it. Happy New Year, Everyone!! See you in 2007!

and then there were 215

I managed to weed through my photos and uploaded 215 photos from Thailand. They simply don’t do the trip justice but this will have to do for now. My brother and dad took a grip more and some of them can be viewed on my brother’s site: www.chimmytime.com.
I also think I’m over the jetlag. I actually got over it very quickly. I suppose going to work right away wasn’t a terrible idea. It forced me to sleep normal hours and prevented the 8-hour daytime naps. However, I am very happy that today is Friday already. I need a weekend badly.

hello from Thailand

We’re in Thailand now and what a day it has been. The flight was long but the plane is nice. We’re eating all day and went to see the ruins where they filmed Mortal Combat. The weather is warm but not too bad. Living like kings and queens here so far. Not sure where we’re being taken tomorrow.
Mosquito bite count: Jes = 2, Nina = 0, and Johnny = 2.

Goodbye Christmas. Hello Thailand!

We’re leaving for Thailand tomorrow night and I’m in preparation mode. I’ve put away the Christmas decorations, took down the tree, made packing lists and to-do lists, and did a little research on-line today. Christmas came and passed so quickly this year yet it seemed like our trip to Thailand would never get here.
I purchased a couple books back in August to help me brush up on my Thai and orient me to the cities that we’ll be visiting. I’m excited to see how much Thai I can still speak and if it will all come back to me while I’m there. It will also be nice to see Thailand through my grown-up eyes and senses since the last time I was there I couldn’t wait to come home. I remember my dad advising me to wait until I grew up before returning to Thailand. He said, “you’ll appreciate all this later”. I hope he’s right. I can’t wait to see the elephants, beaches, my dad’s old neighborhood, and my mom’s old house. However, I’m not looking forward to the sticky weather and blood-thirsty mosquitos. So far it looks like we’ll be in Bangkok for most of the time and going on small trips to Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai in the north and Phuket in the south. Good times…

New Plane, Better Trip

In planning for our Thailand trip, I did some research on our flight, our seat assignments, etc. First of all, they changed our 20-hour flight with one stop in Japan to a 16-hour non-stop flight!! Excellent. Secondly, Thai Airways upgraded their fleet of planes to the Airbus A340-500. I didn’t really know what that meant for us but after doing a little more research I found out that it’s awesome! Of course their “Royal Silk Class” will be sleeping on flat-reclining seats and Premium Economy will have slightly more legroom. But in ECONOMY, we’ll have in-seat personal entertainment featuring on-demand movies, video games, and music. It’s like JetBlue! I also read that each seat will have a PC Power connection to keep your laptop charged the whole way! Woohoo!! We are ghetto-ing-it-up in style!! Brother, Daddy, Jes…if you’re reading this, I think you need to get up out of your seat right now and do a happy dance. Ready? 1-2-3…go!
Ok, time for the daily recap. I essentially had a half-day of work today since our usual afternoon Staff Meeting was cancelled. Yippee! So, I made a date with Marie and Cole. We went out for lunch. We went shopping at IKEA. We even went to Mitsuwa Marketplace! Fun times for us all…even for Taku-chan. He was in a good mood all afternoon and didn’t cry or fuss until the very end as we drove back to my house. Phew!
