Happy Graduation!

Last Friday (5/18), Jason graduated from NYU School of Law.  From this photo you would think that he wasn’t very excited about it but WE’RE excited because it means that Jason and Jia will be moving to California soon!  They’re staying in NYC for the summer so Jason can study for the California Bar Examination and they should be moving out here by Fall.  Yay!  Congratulations DiDi!!

Update: I guess Auntie Jeanie saw the photo above and sent me some photos of Jason smiling and in his actual cap and gown.  That’s more like it!  Thanks, Auntie!

That felt great!

This afternoon, I dusted off the running shoes.  My last run was on November 27th back when I was 20 weeks pregnant and finally decided to hang up my shoes for the next few months.  At that point, my ligaments were too loose and sore and I just couldn’t catch my breath.  Now I’m 4 weeks postpartum and today I finished my first two miles in 25:22.  Yeah, it’s pretty sad but after doing some reading on how to start running again, most will say to wait until 6 weeks and to take it super slow.  I couldn’t wait another two weeks so I went outside, planned to run one mile, and ended up running two.  Overall, it felt great to be outside and moving at a quicker pace than a brisk walk.  It was the lightest I’d felt in many months and breathing was so easy!  Boy have I taken breathing for granted all these years.  Now it’s time to take some ibuprofen and see what the damage will be tonight and tomorrow.

New Kid on the Block

Kumquat turned one month old today and we celebrated with dim sum at Yank Sing.  It was fun to have all the kids together in one place and it was neat to see how much they’ve grown and changed since I last saw them.

Jack is the oldest of the gang and has become quite a goofball.  He’s as wacky as his dad and has the best laugh.  This was the first time he had met Kumquat and it’s neat to see them next to each other.  I still remember when Jack was just as small as her almost 5 years ago.

Next is Reese, who has lots of spunk and knows exactly what she wants and doesn’t want.  Loved the new haircut she got but you wouldn’t be able to tell with all the food in her face and hair.  She also enjoyed flirting with Victor at the table today.

Then there’s Mr. Rowan.  He’s quite a mover and had some new kicks to show off today.  He also got super excited when Vyl pulled out a pack of seaweed paper.  He practically shoved an entire sheet in his mouth.

It’ll be fun when Kumquat is big enough to run around with the rest of the gang.  Until then, she’ll be the serious one in the corner frowning at everyone.

Two More Months!

Our flights are booked.  The hotel room is reserved.  We’re heading to Hawaii in July!!!  Yippeeeee!!!  Kumquat just turned 4 weeks old today and will be 1 month old on Sunday so I pulled out the outfit her Auntie Teresa bought her.
Turns out that when a baby outfit says 0-3 months, they’re really saying 0-1 month because it fits already!  Oh no… At least the sunglasses will still fit.

So, in two months, we’ll be heading west to Oahu to visit our dear friend Yoon and to have 5 days and 4 nights at the Moana Surfrider, our home away from home.  Can’t wait!  Hopefully Kumquat will cooperate on the flight over (crossing my fingers) and we’ll just have to deal with the time difference when we get there.

Secret Service

Walking Koa with Kumquat in tow feels like I have Secret Service with me.  Dog is always on high alert and checks back on us every few seconds.  Pretty funny.

When we’re at home, Koa checks on Kumquat in her bed when she cries.  He also becomes extra protective when an unfamiliar person comes over and holds her.  He’ll come by and sniff the baby and the person, sit at the person’s feet, and give a deadly stare.  He’s even been bold enough to jump onto the couch to sit right next to the person holding Kumquat.
