New Family Members!!!

This morning I received a text from my cousin Ishya saying that her water broke.  Just a few hours later, I received a text and photos from my uncle that the twins were born!  Wow, that was quick!

The girl, Sadie, came out first weighing in at 4 lbs, 7 oz.

The boy, Theo, came out weighing in at 5 lbs, 5 oz.

Ishya made it to 36 weeks and it sounds like mom and babies are all doing well.  Hopefully they will all be up for visitors tomorrow night.  Can’t wait to meet them!

Congratulations to Ishya and Billy!!!  Welcome to the family, Sadie and Theo!

And the answer is…

Hey, Y’all!  I LOVED reading all your comments over the weekend!  I went to my ultrasound appointment and Kumquat was a little uncooperative at first but we got an answer!  It’s a GIRL!!!  The doc pointed out the little line in the middle and her booty is pretty darn cute.  And check out that femur!  Maybe she’ll be tall.

Sorry, Kumquat – this will be the only time I will publicly humiliate you by showing off your girly parts on beakatude.

She spent most of the time curled up face-down so the technician had a hard time getting a good shot of her heart but everything else checked out fine.  She has nice long arms and legs that have been punching and kicking me these past couple weeks.  The spine and brain look good and the kidneys looked great.  When we tried to get her to flip over onto her back, she did it only briefly and then I watched her flip back over.  At one point I think she was on her head in mid-somersault.  Sheesh.  After the technician gave up on getting an image of the heart, the doctor came in to take a look for himself.  He got all four chambers of the heart and the aortic arch was all good.

Here’s a 3D image of her nuzzling the placenta/umbilical cord.  I guess she likes to snuggle up and get cozy like her mommy.  The doctor just said she was being shy today.

So there you have it!  The guessing is over and most of you got what you were hoping for!  When the technician said it was a little girl, it brought a big smile to our faces and I almost had tears of joy at one point.  Now, when can I start shopping?!

Pink or Blue?!

I’ll be reaching the half-way point this Sunday at 20 weeks. Phew!  That was quick!  This Monday afternoon is when I’m having my anatomy ultrasound to check out all the body parts and organs. We’ll also get to find out if Kumquat is a boy or a girl. Well, that is if he/she cooperates.

Which do I prefer? Surprisingly, I don’t have a preference anymore. All my life I thought I wanted a boy but this pregnancy has really changed my mind and the possibility of having a girl has been just as appealing to me for the first time.  Hmm…is that a sign?

Wondering what you’re all rootin’ for so post your guess in the comments section!  I should have an answer for you by Monday night!!

Gobble Gobble!

Ah…Turkey Day…actually Turkey Weekend is my favorite time of year.  This year’s dinner was delicious as usual.  Here’s a photo of our turkey-lurkey.  It’s golden brown and delicious.

When it was time to carve the bird, Smush and Koa rushed the kitchen to make sure they could catch whatever dropped.  Koa learned quickly from his first Thanksgiving when he happened to be under the turkey and ended up with tasty drippings all over this head/nose.

Here’s the full spread.  We had turkey, stuffing, creamed corn, cranberry sauce, crescent rolls, sweet potato, mashed potato, and GRAVY.  Yum.

I went to work this morning and actually had a good time.  Teresa was my partner for the day and it was just like old times.  We brought the kids downstairs to make a huge breakfast complete with eggs, sausage, waffles, pancakes, hashbrowns, and freshly-squeezed orange juice.  Afterward, we had a three-person dance party down the hallways with our patient, and then finished the day tackling an agitated patient back into his wheelchair.  On top of that, I finished all my treatments by noon and was home by 1:30 after it was all said and done.  On my way home, I met up with Jes and Koa at the Ferry Building to buy some bread from Acme for our turkey sammiches.

Here are photos from this week’s Gobble Gobble festivities.

Christmas before Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone!

I hope you’re all looking forward to stuffing your faces today!  I know I am!

Last night, Jes gave me an early Christmas gift!  It came in a normal-sized Amazon.com box and inside was a smaller box – a kindle fire!  Cool!  I recently considered getting one so that I can get my magazines digitally and get rid of all my print issues to make room for Kumquat and TA-DA!  I got one!

Here are some of my preliminary thoughts after my first night playing with my new toy.

  1. It’s heavier than I expected but much smaller than Jesse’s iPad.
  2. I like the back of the device, which is a soft smooth rubber that makes it easier and more comfortable for me to hold without dropping it.
  3. The screen is glass so I can see that I’ll still need to take my other Kindle on sunny vacations if I want to read outdoors.
  4. The color display and resolution make browsing really easy on the eyes.
  5. The magazine selection is not bad.  I’m just trying to figure out how to get free issues of the magazines I already subscribe to by mail.
  6. Now I can read or browse in the dark when I’m awake in the middle of the night or early morning.
  7. I’ll be able to download children’s books in color for Kumquat to flip through later when he/she is ready.

So far, I like my new toy.  Ryan has one and apparently hates it.  I’m sure there are disadvantages over the iPad but it’s only $199 versus $499!  Thanks for the gift, Jes!  Happy Thanksgiving and Christmas to me!!

More Room to Run

Last night we had a Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner at the Bangs’ new home in Burlingame with smoked turkey and all the fixings.  They finally moved out of their Marina apartment to the ‘burbs into a really cute 3-bedroom house.  We were also treated by a visit by The Dangs who are in town from Maryland to visit family.  It was fun to have everyone together and there were kids everywhere!  The great thing about their house is the HUGE backyard.  Jack and Andersen had a really fun time running around the big tree and on the grass outside.

Congratulations to the Bang, Vyl, and Rowan!!
