I slept.

Last night I had a full night’s sleep for the first time in months.  Ever since Kumquat came along I’ve had to get up in the middle of the night at least once or twice (around 3am) to pee and have been struggling to fall back asleep because I’m either uncomfortable or congested.  But last night was different.  I woke up at 6, my nose was clear, and my mouth wasn’t dry from breathing out of my mouth all night.  Aaaah…

Tomorrow I will be 16 weeks along and my clothes are starting to feel a little snug around the waist.  So, I went shopping today and it was quite an experience.  I stopped at Gap first since it was just up the stairs from my Muni stop.  I had to go upstairs to the 2nd floor for the first time to find the Maternity section, which is a tiny corner of the floor among all the baby clothes. I thought this wooden elephant was so cute.

I managed to find a cute pair of skinny jeans that has a stretchy panel in the front, a pair of work pants, and a top.

I also went to Old Navy and their layout was the same.  Maternity was on a separate floor with the baby/kid clothes tucked away in the corner.

I guess I’m in an awkward stage where I don’t have a real baby bump yet…I just look a little chubbier around the middle.  So, trying on clothes today was a little depressing.  I’m too small for the maternity tops but regular clothes fit terribly.  I kept thinking to myself, “Kumquat had better be in here or else I’m in trouble!”

It took me about 3 hours to find a total of 3 pairs of pants, 4 tops, and a sweater.  That was hard work.

He still hates it.

On Wednesday, I got home at a decent time so I decided to take Dog for a long walk and then stopped at the pet store to buy some dog food.  While we were there, I thought, “Hm…Dog’s kinda stinky.”  So, I dragged him into the bathhouse and he got his quarterly bath.  As he always does, he cried and screamed through the whole thing and I left the place soaked.

Oh well.  I have a clean dog now and he got a little treat.  We’re both happy.

Sunday Supper

A couple Sundays ago (10/16), the Bangs invited us over for dinner.  It had been a while so it was good to catch up and see how the kids have grown and changed since the last time I saw them.

I got a few photos of Reese, Jack, and Rowan while they played.  Here are a few more photos of the kids.

An Evening of Aloha

I’ve been going to hula every Thursday (and sometimes Saturday) since May and all the practice has led up to my first Ho’ike last night.  The day started out really early…7:30 am to be precise.  I had to have my make-up and hair done bright and early and then helped out with set-up of the whole thing.  It was a warm sunny day and it was pretty warm in the gym.  The doors opened at 2 pm and there was quite a bit of entertainment before and during dinner including a Taiko group and Polynesian performers as well.  We began performing around 5 pm as the guests finished their luau dinner, which was complete with kalua pork, mac salad, and poi.

Michelle brought Jack to the show and I think he was a little confused to see me.  With so much make-up on, I wouldn’t blame him.

I performed in 3 dances that evening and luckily most of my dresses still fit.  This is the more traditional costume that was used for the hula kahiko portion.  It’s not the most flattering outfit but certainly hides an emerging baby bump.

This is me in one of the hula ‘auana.  I can’t believe this dress actually still fit.  Kumquat was officially 15 weeks old that morning and decided that this would be the day he/she would make my belly stick out a little.

The little girls were also so cute in their outfits.  I’m surprised at how they were able to withstand such a long day of getting their hair done, waiting around, lining up, and being on their best behavior.

Here’s the group photo that we all took together.  There are a lot of us!  It was a really fun day and evening of ohana and aloha.  I’m so glad that I was a part of it.

Here are the photos from the event.

Long Weekend

Brother and Joy came up to visit this past weekend and I took Friday off to enjoy the time with them.  They arrived on Thursday afternoon and I got off work in time to drive back to SF, pick up their luggage, drive home, and walk to Hog Island for HH with them.

On the walk home, there was a really pretty sunset and the sky was pink and orange.  The weather was really pleasant and it remained warm through the night…so unusual.

On Friday, we got up early and went for a short run to Chinatown.  We stopped for breakfast at Washington Bakery and had some porridge and fried dough.  Yum.

Later that day, we drove to Sausalito to check out a cute novelty shop and grabbed a quick bit to eat before heading over to the Walt Disney Family Museum.

The last stop was Humphrey Slocombe.  I was bummed that I couldn’t get a scoop of Secret Breakfast but I got to try Fluffernutter, whcih really tasted like an Abbazabba!

On Saturday, I had hula rehearsal in the morning so Brother and Joy wandered Japan Town and had brunch on Fillmore.  Afterward, we headed home and walked to lunch with Jes and Koa.  It was so warm and sunny outside. Later that night, we drove down to Redwood City for lobster rolls and clam chowder at Old Port Lobster Shack before driving down to Shoreline for the Journey concert.

It was super crowded on the lawn but we somehow found Dot and the Masayas and hung out at the top where there was an extra bar and plenty of room to spread out.  We stayed until the end and watched them perform their most famous songs.

It was a fun long weekend with Brother and Joy.  I guess it’ll hold me over until Christmas.

Here are the photos from this weekend.

Fleet Week

This year for Fleet Week, Huy was on one of the nuclear aircraft carriers that came to the Bay Area.  On Saturday, he got a ferry ride to shore and was dressed in his uniform.  He’s now a Lieutenant Commander so he got lots of salutes while we were out and he even got us a table at Prospect, which had no reservations available.  Sweet.

I was in class all Saturday and Sunday but Jes and The Masayas got to hang out with him.  They even got a private tour of the aircraft carrier on Sunday!  I was so jealous.  On Sunday and Monday nights, we had dinner with some of the officers in his squadron.  They’re a fun bunch and we had some tasty food.

It was great seeing Huy and we learned a lot about what he’s been doing this past month on the ship.
