Vitamin D

It was sunny in SF so I spent some time outside this weekend.

On Saturday, Husband and I took a stroll around the city.  We found a Filipino Festival at the Yerba Buena Gardens and saw some pretty fun t-shirts and watched the stick fighting demo on stage.

Then we headed over to the Apple Store and bought an Apple TV device.  Not sure how we’re going to use it in the long-run but Jes has watched the first 2 seasons of The Wire on it so far.

Also stopped at the Ferry Plaza/Farmers’ Market on the way home.  Had a delicious pulled pork sammich from Il Cane Rosso and found a giant heirloom tomato that was bigger than my hand!

On Sunday, I got up early to walk the dog.  I was treated to this beautiful view from McCovey Cove.  Later I drove to Berkeley to meet up with friends for a 6-mile run.  It’s always more fun to run with friends…especially when you can finish with a big brunch afterward.

Later that night, I got an email from my doctor’s office letting me know that my Vitamin D test results came back and I’m finally within the normal range!  Woooo!!  I’ve spent a good year worshiping the sun and it’s finally paid off.

They keep me sane.

My job can be hard sometimes but I’m lucky enough to have such an awesome group of girls to keep me sane and grounded.  With Jes in Salt Lake City this week for a conference, I had these ladies to keep me busy.

On Monday, we went to the Giants game and lucked out on a pleasant evening and a beautiful view of the bay.

They all came over after work for some of the usual hi-jinks and then we headed across the street to enjoy some garlic fries and dogs.

This evening, we went on our Wednesday run and finished 6 miles!  Afterward, we had an early celebration of Stephanie’s birthday with Indian food and Ici Ice Cream.

I had a scrumptious meyer lemon ice cream sammich with ginger snaps.  Mmm…

Gaaarlic

A couple weekends ago, we went to the Gilroy Garlic Festival.  I’d always wanted to go and we finally went!  We drove down to Redwood City to meet up with Jason who then drove us the rest of the way.  We got there early enough to get parking at a reasonable spot and caught the shuttle over to the fairgrounds. Stephanie and her husband also met up with us and we also bumped into Jimmy and Eleen!  Cool.

It was warm and sunny but so pleasant.  We visited every Beer Station on the grounds and even waited in line for the Free Garlic Ice Cream.

It was good but the garlic aftertaste was kinda weird.

We snacked on garlic shrimp and garlic bread and also enjoyed some tasty BBQ and grilled corn on the cob.  We had fun tasting stuff and people-watching.  I’m glad I finally got to go but I’m not sure I’ll have to go every year.

I rule.

Jes has always said that I have a black thumb but I’ve always thought that it was more purple because I can keep my plants alive but some just don’t make it.  Lately, I’ve been more successful so I thought I’d share two of my successes.

Last Tuesday (7/26), I bought fresh basil from the Farmer’s Market and made some pesto.  Instead of throwing away all of the leftover stems after plucking off the leaves, I stuck one of them in a bottle of water and left it out by the window.  One week later, I checked the bottle to change the water and I found roots!!!  Whuuuuuttt?!!?!  I totally rule!  Not only are the leaves still alive but it’s regenerated some roots!  I know this is probably common knowledge but I thought with my purple thumb it wouldn’t work.  I was so wrong.

I also have an orchid plant that I received as a gift back in December.  It had lots of flowers that eventually dropped after they all opened.  I was determined to keep it alive so I left it out on my windowsill at work and watered it every Wednesday.  Six months later, I found a new leaf (the little one in the middle) and it just keeps getting bigger!

Now I have to wait for a spike to grow and hopefully I’ll get flowers.  Yippee!!  I’ll keep you posted.

By the way, my avocado plant had to die because I couldn’t move it up to SF with me.  Oh boo…

Holly’s Baby Shower

On July 17th (the day after Dayantha’s wedding), I helped Holly’s sisters and mom throw Hols a baby shower.

It was at Susie’s really spacious loft in Long Beach and we decorated the place with fresh produce and flowers for a “Farmer’s Market” theme.

Patty and Patti also planned and organized the games including a “Guess the Poop” game that involved guessing different chocolate bars/candy that have been smushed into diapers.  It was fun watching some of the girls sniffing and even tasting the poop.

Holly loved it and she enjoyed having all her closest friends and family around her.  It’s amazing that she’s already 7 months pregnant…she’s so tiny still.  Well, she’s due in September and they don’t know the sex of the baby yet.  I guess they may keep it a surprise…typical Holly and Roy.

Here are the photos from the shower.  Enjoy!
