Food, Drinks, and Buttons

I attended my first Yelp Elite event on Monday and Jes was my +1.  The event was going to be just around the corner from home so it was a good one to RSVP for and luckily I got in!

So after work, we walked to the restaurant and had a fun time eating, drinking, taking photobooth photos, and people-watching.  I was a little worried about what kind of people I’d have to be in the same room with but it turned out to be a pretty big venue and everyone was just doing their own thang.

I also managed to collect an array of miniature buttons that were sprinkled on all the tables.  I heart free food and drinks with a little shwag on top.

Take Two

Due to the events of Saturday afternoon, we watched the Blue Angels on Sunday instead.  With the Giants playing on Thursday and Friday and sailors partying in the city, the streets were packed all weekend.  It’s always fun to watch the planes zooming over our heads and around the city and there’s nothing better than being able to just walk up stairs to the roof to watch the show. Yay!

It was also a gorgeous weekend with clear blue skies and warm temps.  Summer came really late this year.

Birthdays

On Saturday, I was on my way home from Safeway with a 6-pack of beer for our afternoon on the roof to watch the Blue Angels when I got a call from Ryan.  They were on Red Alert and I made a left turn to their house.  Jack was napping and Jes came over to keep me company.  Once Jack woke up, he wasn’t too surprised to see me and kept saying “Baby Sister in Mommy’s tummy”.  I guess they really prepped this guy for what to expect.

He happily played with his blocks and we watched Sesame Street together.  He had some juice and even used the potty before we headed out to dinner. We already had plans that evening so Ryan’s mom took the next shift.

That evening, Jes had planned a belated Birthday Dinner for me at Paragon.  He reserved the private room and had everyone join us.  Dayantha and Krissy drove down from Sacramento and Jen and Kevin drove up from Redwood City.  What a treat!  While we were having dinner, Ryan sent us a photo of Reese.  Woohoo!  If Saturday was my actual birthday, we’d be sharing the day!

Little J is a Big Brother

Jes and I were on Jack duty on Saturday afternoon because he was getting a baby sister that day.  Baby Reese was born on October 9th around 8:30 that evening and missed Ryan’s goal of being a 10/10/10 baby by only 3 hours.  I got to hold her tonight and she’s so tiny and oh so cute!  Hopefully I’ll get to take some photos of her this weekend.  Thanks for sending me this photo, Ryan!  Had no idea you had taken this!

Times like these…

…make me love my job.

Story #1:

On Tuesday, in the middle of one of my sessions, one of my 7-year-old kiddos yelled “I have to pee!”  So I hurried him to the bathroom, set him up in front of the toilet, and said, “OK! Go pee pee!!”  We waited a few seconds and nothing happened.  I asked, “Uh…I thought you had to go.”  He replied by saying “Yeah, I did.  Maybe it ran out of batteries.”  Heh.  I got a good laugh that morning.

Story #2:

This afternoon we had planned an outing to the McDonald’s down the street from the hospital.  Unfortunately due to the events of the morning, we had to change our plans and stay in the hospital for the afternoon and had to resort to a Plan 2.  My intern made the suggestion of going out to get McDonald’s for the kids and having them eat together.  We did just that AND set up a drive-thru with 2 windows for the kids to drive up to.  The first window was for ordering and paying while the second one was for picking up your order.  We happened to have a McDonald’s cash register and put one of the kids in charge of taking the orders.  The others got on tricycles and other little riding toys and paid with Monopoly money.  We all had a good time and the kids did too.  Heh heh.

McWino Birthday

Last Tuesday was my 35th birthday.  I had just gotten home from LA and Jes was still in NYC.  Luckily, I have some pretty good friends at work and they were happy to celebrate with me on a school night.  In February, we had a Happy Hour on my roof with wine and Chicken McNuggets.  We had such a good time that we decided to have Round Two for my birthday.

We ordered McNuggets and fries, packed Oreos for dessert, and had 4 bottles of wine to share.  Didn’t finish it all but it was fun trying.  It was also the last day of the heat wave in SF, which made it perfect for a rooftop HH.

The girls and I had a fun time snacking, drinking, and laughing and they all made it home safely.  I had a great birthday and went back to work the next day feeling happy to be a year older.

Here are the photos.
