Sewing 101

p1010890a.jpg

I took my first sewing class this evening and it was so much fun! Susie told me about this place when I first moved to SF but I was never able to get in because the classes filled up so quickly. Well, I finally got the chance to go and it was a success! Woohoo! I picked out and cut the fabric pieces, loaded a bobbin and the machine, and got crackin’. Within 3 hours, I was able to hail a cab with my finished handmade pillow clutched under my arm.

Check out the extra piece that was added to the front with some top stitching in a contrasting color. Thank you… Thank you…

I love my bag!

My friend Eleen, the girl that Jimmy was lucky enough to snag, has started her own line of bags. Her work is amazing and I’m still in awe of her talent. This is also a girl that pretty much made everything for her wedding, which included stationery, favors, and even her own wedding gown!! So, I was browsing her site, eleen.com, and found the cutest “skip around town bag” that I just HAD TO HAVE. When I told her that I wanted to buy it, she offered to make me my very own as a gift for helping with her wedding.  Aw…so sweet.

So on Friday, Eleen gave it to Jimmy who then delivered it to Jesse who then brought it home to me and I proudly wore my first eleen bag all weekend long. Check it out…

It’s made of ballistic nylon with an over-the-shoulder strap and made with the cutest fabric that has the Sho Chiku Bai rice bag design on it.

On top of that, get a load of all the cool details put into it: a lip balm/pen holder, inner pocket, and key latch. It also has a secret pocket on the side (see the zipper on the right?) to stash your phone, BART pass, or maybe some weed…haha, just kidding.

So, she’s still just a one-girl show working from home but if you want to check out what she has in stock, go directly to eleen.com or her online shop at etsy.com.  Kate Spade had better watch out.

Back to the Beach

With the fear of rain today, we still managed to meet up with the Lams for an afternoon at Fort Funston. We hadn’t been back since last October so this was a nice treat for all of us. Koa did a good job staying nearby as we walked and hiked along the coast. He also climbed up a cliff, ran back down, but misjudged his final jump and took a nosedive and got a face and mouth full of sand. I hope his neck feels ok tomorrow. Here are some photos.

We also went to Pete’s for another UCLA game. The Bruins are headed to the Final Four, Baby!

cute notes

As many of you know, I’m a sucker for good design so I’ve added a category that will feature some of my favorite stuff.

A few years ago, an old friend and co-worker of mine gave me some stationery.  One of the items was a four-pack of notepads.  I thought they were simply too cute to use but I’ve finally opened the package and have a new appreciation for them.  It’s complete with a front flap that tucks neatly into the bottom flap, a small pencil with a little holder at the crease, and each page is perforated at the bottom for easy tearing.

next door

Two great things have come together for us this week…Bruins Bball and a sports bar that’s just next door to where I live. It also doesn’t hurt that Bud Light came in a bucket at 5 for $15.  So, last night we headed over to watch the Sweet 16 games last night and there was a huge Bruins gathering complete with UCLA sweatshirts and 8-claps.

The Sokol-Juns tried to join us but the bar was way too loud for little Jack so they came in to say “hi” and left. Boo…too bad.

Anyway, it was nice to see that we once again squeaked our way up the ladder and now I can return to the “Tav” tomorrow afternoon for another heart-wrenching game.

Snowy Fun

What a great weekend! Our trip to Utah went smoothly and we had an awesome time on the slopes. It really was probably the best resort I’ve been to so far and we didn’t even have a powder day! On our second day, we took the tunnel to the sunny/back side and I was just so amazed at how beautiful and spacious the area was. I also demo’d a pair of skis on Saturday, which let me carve and turn better than ever. It might be time for a new pair of skis!

At the end of the day, we had some beer and watched UCLA barely squeak past the second round. I think our waiter was a little high and absent-minded but the food was yummy. I Yelped all the places we tried this weekend so go here for my reviews.  Here are just a few of my photos of our weekend.

We’re back in SF now and Koa seemed to survive his weekend home alone. Hooray for dog walkers!
