the old man returns

Today at Camp, our buddy, Kurt Rambis, came by for another visit! The campers and volunteers had a good time shootin’ hoops with him and I took him around the campus for the usual tour. The rest of the week has been pretty interesting. We’ve found volunteers coupled off in an empty room, kids throwing up, a petting zoo with ponies and bunnies, and we’re almost out of ice packs. What’s funny is that this is all very normal for Camp. There’s one more week left after this one and it will be my last. It’s been fun. It’s been tiring. It’s also time for me to pass it along to the new staff.

worth the wait

The Jack Johnson concert last night at Irvine Meadows really fun! We bought tickets back in March and it felt like August would never come. But August 7th arrived and it was worth the wait. The weather was pleasant, the venue was right next to our house, our seats weren’t too shabby, and Jack rocked. It certainly wasn’t a bad way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon. Once I get some freetime, I’ll post my bootleg video clips of the concert. I actually captured video clips of “Taylor”, “Do You Remember?”, and some others. 🙂

…and then there were two.

Jesse usually goes for a long bike ride on Sundays and this one wasn’t any different…up at 6, eat oatmeal and a banana, get the bike ready, and wait for the others to arrive. However, this ride started out with more than the usual people. In addition to my cousin, his friend Mike, and our neighbor Jay, they went out with our other neighbor Alan and his buddies. So when they left, it was a nice group of about 10 of them heading out to Huntington Beach. Some did just a flat ride and turned around and others stayed with the pack and headed up to Back Bay. Once they got to Santiago Canyon, however, there were only two guys left. Jesse and Pish took the Santiago Canyon hills for the remainder of the 60-mile ride with Jes flatting on the last 5 miles. Not bad for Team Hack. Good job, guys!

zzz…

Camp has started and I’m not used to this 100 mile/day commute. It’s really wearing me out. I’ve been getting up at 6 or 6:15 so I can get to work by 8 am every morning. On top of that, Jes’ cousin Amy and her two friends have been staying with us this week so we’ve been up and out later than usual too. Last night we went out for dinner and drinks in Newport Beach until about 1:30. I was feeling rather strong until about 12:45 when I decided to sit next to Jes in a booth to lean my head on his shoulder for a quick nap. That’s when the bouncer and the bar manager came up to us a couple seconds later to wake me up and tell me that I’d have to leave in order to keep them in compliance with their liquor license. Man! Well, we convinced them that I wouldn’t put my head down again and that we would finish their drinks in a timely manner. This kept us from having to be escorted out. Sheesh…what’s a girl gotta do to get some shut-eye?! Anyway, I was yawning all day today and fell asleep when I got home. It’s about 8:00 pm now and time for dinner. Then I can go back to sleep. Stupid camp. Only 2 weeks and 1 day left.
