makes you wanna go someday

Our neighbor’s friend is in France right now and sent these photos home.
Coverage of the Tour de France on OLN has been great and it’s probably the best way to watch the Tour. However, there must be something special about camping out for days on the side of a country road awaiting the long train of cyclists to zoom by you in just a few seconds. It’s Lance’s last year before retiring and it looks like it’s going to be a good one so far!

Busy Saturday. Lazy Sunday.

After my run on Saturday, I had a MASSIVE headache. It was probably a combination of dehydration and strain from not wearing sunglasses on the run. I took a nap and finally got enough energy to crawl into the car to go to Dayantha’s house. Once I got there, I think the medicine or caffeine that I took kicked in just in time and was in good enough shape for the pool party that Ti threw for Thilan’s bday. We got to eat some food, hang out by the pool, and watch the kids (and Dayantha) hit the pinata. Later in the evening we stopped by my cousin’s house for his 30th bday party and hung out for a bit while they played a 3-table poker tournament.
At 10, went met up with the Tranandos again at Cohiba Club in Long Beach. It wasn’t bad except for the stupid $20 cover. To also flirted her way into the VIP room and got th rest of us in too. The room wasn’t so special. However, Dayantha did notice that there were a lot more girls than guys in there. The dj sucked but we got to drink and dance until they kicked us out. Victor and Susie met up with us after their wedding and we all ate at Denny’s like old times. I can’t believe we didn’t get home until 4:30 in the morning. Whew…it’s been a while since we’ve done that. Sunday was a certainly a day of rest. We got up really late. Jes didn’t go for his 7am bike ride. We had Spam and eggs for breakfast. Watched the Tour (awesome stage, by the way) all afternoon. The brother came over to fat out with us for the rest of the evening. Topped off the evening with a BBQ and beer in the jacuzzi. Is it time to go back to work already?!

8 hours is rough

Ever since I started working for a school district, my lifestyle has drastically changed. No more early morning commutes at 6:45 in the morning for my first appointment at 8:00. No more late nights at the clinic and a lonely, hungry drive home at 7:00. Now I roll out of bed at 7:00, walk the dog, get ready for work, get out the door by 7:50 and start at 8:00. I finish no later than 3:30 and get home before the sun even thinks about going to sleep.
Well, this morning I decided to be a little more industrious. I woke up at about 6:30, got dressed, went for a 30-minute run, walked the dog, made the coffee, showered, and got to work by 8:15. I even stayed in my office all day and ACTUALLY WORKED until 5:00 pm! What?! I didn’t even get my laptop out to chat-it-up with people. What is going on!? I’m not quite sure. All I know is that I got a crap-load of stuff done and still had enough energy when I got home to wash a sinkful of dishes.
Don’t worry, this won’t last. I already slacked on my potential 2nd run of the day and had Jes run by himself. Now I’m sitting on the couch with my trusty laptop, watching the Tour de France, and waiting for Jesse to make my dinner. Ah, that’s better.

It’s officially Camp season!

Do I smell Camp Escapades nearby? It’s only a month away! I made the 40-mile trek to PTN today for our first orientation meeting of the month and it’s just like old times. The old crew met up today, minus Brooke who has moved to Boston, and the new Coordinators are doing a nice job. It’s been tough to pass off what I poured my heart into last year but I think I’m ready to let go. I’ve decided that I’m going to sit back and enjoy my last summer at Camp. Hopefully Brooke will be able to join me on our last week.

I have a headache.

Last night, we went out to Dragon in Hermosa Beach with Dayantha, Johnny, and Mary. Ti, Thilan, To, her friend, and Ray met up with us too. Luckily, I had taken a quick nap in the car on the way because I was really tired and ready to go to bed by 9pm. Thanks to the nap, I was awake and ready to play. This place was not bad for the $5 cover. The music was good, the drinks were good, it was fun watching the DJ do his thing, and I think the boys enjoyed the pole dancer on the counter. The crowd was pretty mixed and didn’t seem to be the typical whitey beach crowd that we usually see in the area. I think they were all at Sharkey’s. By the end of the night, we were all liquored up (except for the brother – thanks, Johnny) and the cops were ushering us off the pier. I’m just glad that we got out of there without Jesse getting arrested. I don’t think it’s a good idea to point at a cop when he’s coming at you. Anyway, we slept in Cerritos last night, woke up at 10:30, and now I have a headache to nurse today. Good times.
