Long Flight

flight It’s early Saturday morning and I’m feeling much more rested after a good night’s sleep.  Yesterday was long day of traveling but we’re in Maui now!  The flight was in the morning and Kumquat did alright at first but she’s an active little one.  Unfortunately, she only managed to sleep for 40 minutes so I didn’t get to do as much reading on the plane as I had hoped.  The “fasten seatbelt” sign was on for most of the flight, which meant I couldn’t let her roam around in the back of the plane as I had planned.  Fortunately she wasn’t too rowdy but it was just enough for me to have to pay attention for most of the flight.  layoverWith a layover in Honolulu, I was able to get a snack and Kumquat got to roam around.

to mauiI lucked out on the plane ride to Maui since Kumquat fell asleep as soon as we took off and woke up when we landed.  I actually got 30 minutes of reading done.  Awesome.

noodleBrother and Joy picked up the rental minivan and we dropped our stuff at the house before dinner.  We had a 5:00 reservation at Star Noodle and we had quite a feast.  We ordered the garlic noodles, Vietnamese crepe, avoahi, filipino bacon and eggs, and ramen.  Yum.  It was too bad that Sheldon wasn’t there that evening.  We still had a good time and the food was yummy.

Burger-licious

IMG_0703Jes had a craving for a burger so we had SuperDuper for dinner last night!

I know I’ve blogged about this place before but my burger was so pretty that I had to snap a photo and post it.

Fruits and Veggies

mango and sticky riceOn Monday, we bought a big box of mangoes from Costco and they have been so good.  I think I’ve eaten a mango each day this week!  Last night as I was cutting one up, I had a craving for Thai coconut sticky rice.  So, I made it.  And it was delicious.  Thanks for the secret recipe, Mommy!  I’ll make sure to pass it down to Kumquat when she’s older.

kumquat and romanescoYesterday, Kumquat and I made our usual trip to the Farmer’s Market and picked up some kale and romanesco.

roasted romanescoSince Jes is on a 3-day cleanse, I cooked them up for dinner tonight.  I tossed the romanesco in olive oil and sprinkled on some salt.  They baked in the oven at 375 degrees for about 10 minutes and it was so tasty!

kale and baconI also had some kale left over after making Kumquat’s baby food so we cooked it up with some bacon!!!  I actually thought the steamed kale that I made for Kumquat was good but this was so much better…of course.

Who thought eating fruits and veggies could be so easy?!  I guess if the baby loves it, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t too.

Lunar New Year

IMG_5296

It’s the Year of the Snake and we had a full day of celebrations.  In the morning, we had Dim Sum with the Bangs and the Sokol-Juns minus Ryan.  IMG_5297

Luckily we got to Yank Sing at 10:30 (they open at 10) so we didn’t have to wait long for a table and the carts came to the table right away.  Sweet.   IMG_5300

We were done by 12 and Kumquat got home in time for her nap.  Can you see her fish-eyeing in Jes’ lap?  She was pooped.IMG_5305

Look at how big all the kids are now.  Pretty soon Kumquat won’t be the youngest with Baby Girl Chiang expected in March.IMG_5315

After my photoshoot, Ranee came over and the cheeksters had their monthly play date and we also got a short run outside too!IMG_5325

For dinner, we had Jason, the Agustins, and Victor over for hot pot.  IMG_5320Kumquat suddenly started to cry during dinner and we thought she didn’t like sitting next to Uncle Jimmy but she was actually really tired.  She passed out as soon as I put her down in her bed.

It was so fun to see so many friends in one day.  Why can’t it be like this more often?!

Weekend with the Parents

parentsLast year on 12/12/12, my brother texted me really early in the morning and said there was a sale with JetBlue for $12 one-way flights.  So we booked flights for the parents to come up and it happened to land on Super Bowl weekend.  chinatownThey arrived on Saturday night and on Sunday morning we went to Chinatown for breakfast.  We took a crowded bus and everyone was surprisingly accommodating to me because I was carrying Kumquat.  Even the little old Chinese ladies were offering up their seats to me.

with mommygoldfishWe browsed the booths they had set-up for Chinese New Year and I almost bought these goldfish for $3.

couch potatoesOn Sunday afternoon, we all went down to Foster City to watch the Super Bowl at Jason and Jia’s.  Mommy was rooting for the Ravens and had bet $50 on them.  So when the 49ers almost made a comeback, it was pretty intense for her (and us).  Fortunately she made some money that night.

koaJes made steak sammiches and we all had a good time just hanging out watching tv and eating…including Koa, who got lots of tasty steak trimmings too.

steak sammichHere’s a photo of my steak sammich with a side of jalapeno kettle chips.  Yum.

Breakfast Time

french toast

On Saturday morning, I made Hawaiian Bread French Toast.  King’s Hawaiian started selling their bread by the loaf and it’s perfect for french toast!!!  Yum yum!

baconOn Sunday morning, I wanted to make breakfast but we only had 3 eggs.  So, I pulled together some bacon, half an onion, and some frozen hashbrowns for the bottom of the pan.

eggThen I scrambled the three eggs with some milk and poured it into the pan.  Once I topped it with cheese, it was covered and cooked on low heat.

breakfast pizzaHere is the final product.  We have a breakfast pizza!  I also put some fresh tomato on top for a little extra texture and sweetness.

sliceIt was pretty tasty and the hashbrown crust didn’t stick to the pan.  I also used up the rest of our eggs and cheese in the fridge.  Woot.
