I was sleeping.

Yesterday was the longest day of the year and I slept right through it. I must be overtraining or something because when I got home from work yesterday at 4pm, I fell asleep on the couch until Jes got home at 5:30. He left for his pool workout and I went upstairs to change for my run and ended up taking a second nap until 8. I woke up in utter confusion because the sun had gone to sleep and my body really didn’t want to move. So much for enjoying a day of eternal sun. At least I managed to stay up today for the second-longest day of the year.
Tomorrow is the last day of school and there will be a preschool graduation ceremony at my school. Most teachers will be saying “farewell until September” but I will be saying, “see ya in July”. I’d love to have July off but I guess I really shouldn’t complain considering all the week-long breaks that I get throughout the year. I’m actually off next week and start again on July 5th for a month of summer school. August will be off too but I’ll be working for my PTN again for my last 3 weeks of Camp Escapades. Now that it’s summer, it looks like it’s time to reinstate Bonfire Wednesdays!! Anyone want to meet us at the beach for some marshmallows?

TGIF

I’m so tired. This month has been stupid busy and it’s only June 3rd. With the end of the school year approaching, I have a million parent conferences and reports to write. I’m so happy that it’s Friday and the workday is almost over.
Plans for the weekend: 1) I have 8 miles to run. 2) I’m going to Patty’s house to celebrate her 30th birthday. Gosh, one by one, they’re turning 30. Pretty soon it’ll be my turn. I think it’ll be fine. I’m healthy, still running, no major life issues, decent job, and I’m feeling young enough to play with kids. Can’t complain…yet.

So much to do and see!

On Thursday, I met up with old friends (former co-workers and classmates) and attended some interesting workshops. It was so nice to see Brooke, who moved to Boston in September. I also saw Kristin, who I hadn’t seen since we graduated from OT school, along with her 6-month-old baby boy. The workshops were educational but long. The expo was HUGE and I didn’t get to see much since I was too busy chatting with old friends the whole time. After the conference, Brooke and I met up with the new camp crew at PTN for an overdue Camp meeting. Tonight at 10:45, I have to pick up Heather at the airport. I can’t wait to see her!! She’ll be staying with us until Sunday morning.

Back to School

Today was the first day of the AOTA Conference and it’s in Long Beach this year. It’s an annual gathering of OTs around the country for some classes, shopping, and networking. For me, it’s a time to catch up with old friends and colleagues and just happens to be in my neck of the woods this year. I sat through 6 hours of lecture today and it was kinda painful. I didn’t have any of my buddies with me so I had to actually sit there and pay attention…go figure. Whenever I attend these things, I get all inspired to be a better therapist…then it fades by the time I get home. Tomorrow is when the real fun begins. Friends are flying in from Boston, Virginia, and Oregon tonight and tomorrow. Yippee! The best part of all this is that I don’t have to go to work for the rest of the week…sweeeet.
By the way, tonight’s dinner at The Hat was great. They have yummy pastrami sandwiches and a mountain of chili cheese fries that could be shared by a family of 6. Jes and I had it for the first time in Monterey Park but we recently discovered that there was one just around the corner from us! Haha. It’s a good thing we made that beef resolution.

Have they started cloning humans yet?

I had a crazy day at work today. At 2:00, I was expected to attend 3 different meetings at the same time. Luckily, the administrators were aware and allowed me to present my report and make my recommendations quickly and move on to the next. It’s weird how I’m “Miss Important” all of a sudden. At my previous job, I was so spoiled. Can’t attend a meeting? Get coverage! Attending a meeting for a high profile case? Get a supervisor to go with you! I don’t have that luxury anymore. It’s a bit stressful but kinda cool at the same time. I suppose you can call this an experience of “professional growth”. I usually call it a pain in the butt.

Thumpity Thump

With the exception of getting up this morning, my first day back to work after break wasn’t as bad as I expected. Perhaps it was because all the kids I saw were doing really well and were on their best behavior today. Whatever it was, I got a lot of work done and my body wasn’t hurting from skiing all weekend. I even went for a run but had to cut it short because of some thumps in my chest that were very similar to the ones I had back in May right before I passed out. Once again, stupid ticker.
