Florida Photos

I finally finished uploading photos from the Florida trip. Photos from G & Dena’s Wedding will be up shortly. I think I was a little snap-happy…without the wedding photos, I uploaded over 160 pictures! Enjoy!

photos and booze

I went to see photos taken by Joshua Klein in LA last night at the Fred Segal on Melrose. Dayantha, my brother, and I met up with Holly, Roy, and some other friends there to check out his work. My general feeling of his work was, “that’s nice but I think a nice frame and matte can make almost anything look like art”. He was actually charging $500 for each print. Whew, I need to get into this business! Anyway, we got there in time for some free wine as we mingled with friends. Within a 30-minute period, I downed 2 glasses of red wine and felt the buzz as soon as we left the place. Afterwards, we all went to O-Bar in West Hollywood where there was a very obvious aura of gayness…dudes with other dudes and a sprinkling of women. We all had some drinks and shared appetizers until we were toasty and broke…this place was pretty pricey. Everyone went home afterwards except for the three of us. We stayed for one more drink, went to Pioneer Denny’s for some grease, and were home by 4 am. Good times…

run like a girl

Yay! We finished the Nike Women’s Marathon! The morning started really early. We got up at 5 am after tossing and turning all night due to jitters and the neighbors playing poker all night next door. We got to the starting area by 6 am and the gun went off at 7.

The hills were pretty mean and the fog was cold and wet. We started at NikeTown, ran down Embarcadero, past Fisherman’s Wharf and The GG Bridge, and then through GG Park. The first half was fun with Susie by my side until we had to say “goodbye” at Mile 12 when the half marathoners split off and I was on my own for another 14 miles. The last half went deeper into GG Park, past the finish line (bastards!), down The Great Highway, around Lake Merced, and back up The Great Highway…pretty dull and painful. I felt ok until Mile 20 when the bump on my knee started to bother me. I think the hills had really taken a toll on my legs as well. All I know is that I made sure to eat and drink plenty of fluids along the way and boy did they pamper us. We had numerous aid stations, lots of Luna Bars, bananas, and chocolate. They even had a Pedi-Care station where they gave out free Nike socks and chairs for you to change into fresh socks. At Mile 25, I was struggling but then Ryan showed up and ran with me for the last mile. That was cool.

Overall, the race was scenic but painful and I finished in 5 hours and 45 minutes…much slower than expected but I’m still happy that I finished. The half marathon girls did really well. Vyl even finished under 2 hours and I think they all had a great time. At the finish line, we were greeted by men in tuxedos handing out the little blue box. The finisher’s DryFit T-shirt was also nice. Props to our supporters: Jimmy and Eleen with the noisemakers, Jesse the photographer, Victor and the signs, Ryan the last mile cheerleader, and Dayantha the guy with a loud voice.

Afterwards, we had Vietnamese food and then Vyl took me and Michelle to get pedicures. Aahh… Our flight home was delayed and the plane ride was very uncomfortable. Check out photos from the race here.

Septemberfest Birthday Bash

We had a birthday celebration for six people on Saturday. Holly and I had dinner with some close friends while my brother had his own dinner with his friends. Dinner was at Opus Bar and Grill, which was next door to the Wiltern Theatre. The place was classy, the food was yummy, and the company made it even better.
Afterwards, we met up with the other birthday boys and girl (Shirlin, Howard, Johnny, and Ray) at The Broadway Bar. It was a cool place in the middle of Downtown LA where the regulars were probably surprised by the large number of Asians in the house. On the evite that got sent out, someone’s comment was “Does The Broadway know the Asians are coming?” – totally appropriate. There were some Goth people there who were cornered upstairs on the balcony as we invaded their space all night. I managed to control my alcohol intake and I think everyone else did too. No falling down, no falling asleep (yay!), and no puking (phew!). I even stayed up for the Korean food at Hodori afterwards. Overall, it was a fun night with friends.
The only setback was that I ran out of batteries in my camera. So, if anyone has photos to share, please add them to the photo collection.
Thanks to everyone who came out to play!

yes!

My birthday came early this year cuz I’ve got my toy! Jesse bought me the D70s today and I got to play around with it this afternoon. I snapped around the house, snapped the dog (more than just a few times), took it to the dog park for some action shots, and played with the settings. The shutter speed is awesome, it feels solid, and the wide angle gives my digital photos a new look. I can’t wait to take it to Thailand!

halfway there

Yesterday, I hit 180 downloads and $50 on my istockphoto portfolio (check out the link on the right). I only need 50 more dollars in order to cash out! Most of my photos can only make a max of 40 cents per download due to the limits of my previous 4mpx camera. I now have a 5mpx camera that will yield 60 cents per download for the “Large” file. If only I had a 6mpx digital SLR…*wink* *wink*. It IS someone’s birthday soon. *wink* Anyone want to donate to the “Nikon D70s Fund”? I accept cash, checks, and PayPal. Tee Hee.
P.S. **Happy Birthday to Elaine, Jay, and Juliet!!**
