sharing

When we were in Thailand, I updated my blog as often as I could. Since my brother and I were doing the same things and taking photos of the same things, he didn’t bother posting much on his site. Instead, he referred to my blog for updates. Well, now it’s my turn! Johnny just finished the slideshow that he was working on during our trip and it’s up and running. I’d say it captures a lot of what we did while highlighting the most interesting parts of each photo. Good job, brother!

…so the season begins.

As soon as we got back from Thailand, I was ready to hit the slopes. Many of you have probably gone once or twice in December but I’m just getting started.
My first trip was this past weekend with Jesse, Johnny, and Cat and we went to Mammoth where it has been dumping. What a great way to start! The conditions were great: plenty of powder, no wind, and sunny skies. We covered the entire mountain in one day and even took the gondola to the tippy top for some bigger runs. Unfortunately, I had one little spill. The back of my ski got caught under a mound of powder, snapped off, and I hit my head on the way down. After I shook off the stars and birdies, I had the arduous task of climbing back up the mountain to retrieve the ski that snapped off. *sigh* The rest of the day went well and I came home with just a little whiplash. The brother was brave enough to take his SLR up the mountain and posted some photos on his site…check them out. Next trip…Tahoe in two weeks. Happy Snowing!

and then there were 215

I managed to weed through my photos and uploaded 215 photos from Thailand. They simply don’t do the trip justice but this will have to do for now. My brother and dad took a grip more and some of them can be viewed on my brother’s site: www.chimmytime.com.
I also think I’m over the jetlag. I actually got over it very quickly. I suppose going to work right away wasn’t a terrible idea. It forced me to sleep normal hours and prevented the 8-hour daytime naps. However, I am very happy that today is Friday already. I need a weekend badly.

home sweet home

Our last days in Thailand were in Bangkok where the weather was really mild and much drier than usual. We spent much of our time shopping and eating before we had to leave the land of Tuk Tuks and Singha beer. Our flight home was really short, only 13 hours!
I will post photos of the trip as soon as I find some time to sit down and sort through all 1400 photos (not counting my brother’s and dad’s). I can’t believe I’m at work already…luckily I was able to get some sleep on the plane and last night when we got back.

Merry Christmas!

It’s officially Christmas and much of our holiday fun is over already. On Friday, we had our 6th Annual Christmas Party with the usual food, drinks, and sucky gift exchange. It was so nice to see everyone together in one place again. Over the years, we’ve gotten older and wiser but we’ve all managed to stay the same. This also goes for the exchange gifts. This year the theme was “something shiny” and boy oh boy did the gifts suck…as usual. Why is it that every year we end up with some martini glasses or a shaker regardless of the theme? I don’t remember any of us really enjoying martinis and yet they keep coming. Some of the funny gifts include rolls of coins worth the requisite $25, a shiny vibrator, lots of items from Crate & Barrel that included a gift receipt, and a couple of obvious re-gifts such as a Homedics rain something. We’re going to have to revamp this gift exchange thing. If anyone has a suggestion, please let me know.
On Saturday, I went to Fry’s with the Lao brothers to find a couple more gifts to finish off the shopping list. We also managed to find power adapters that we’ll need in order to play with our laptops on the 17-hour flight to Thailand. When we got home, I made cookies and cupcakes for the Christmas dinner while the boys wrapped the presents. The dinner at Uncle Dennis’ house was cool. The food was yummy and the gifts for the exchange were much better than Friday’s. My Homedics rain thingy went to Auntie Cheryl’s mom who looked a little confused when she first opened it but seemed to actually appreciate it. I think it’s in good hands now. I ended up with a really authentic Italian cook book and a DVD of “The Piano”. Jes won some spa towels and Jason won his own gift back.
So now it’s Christmas Day and we don’t have any major plans for today. Before you know it, it will be time to pack up for Thailand and be on our way.
