Yellowstone Photos

I took about 643 photos with the Nikon and Jes took about another 40 with the Canon. I ended up weeding most of them and uploaded 177. Along with Michelle’s Nikon and the Bangs’ Canon, we collected even more. It’s fun to see photos from the same trip taken by different people. You’ll find some very similar photos and you’ll also see different perspectives of the same sites. Here they are…

making friends

Last week I went to “My Gym” with Marie and Cole. Since it’s a “parent-participation” activity, I needed to man the video camera and I took some photos as well. It gave me a chance to practice taking action shots of children, which is a lot more challenging that I expected. With so many kids running around, I couldn’t blind them with the flash, so it was tough for me capture the right shots with the flourescent lights above and Cole’s quick moves.
Another funny thing that I witnessed was Cole’s emerging personality. He’s such a go-getter with a rough-play personality. At one point, he walked over to this other child and grabbed him by the shirt. Since he can’t talk yet, that was basically his way of saying, “Hey, let’s play!” Unfortunately, it made the other baby cry and his mom wasn’t very understanding. Ah, Taku-chan…you’re going to be some trouble-maker later on but it’s going to take you far in life too.
Here are the photos.

Dog turns two

KoaOur Koa Bear is two years old today! Happy Birthday, Dog. As a tribute to the stinky furball that we call Koa, I put together a bunch of photos that I took of him this past year. As I am typing, the birthday dog is tugging at my sock trying to convince me to walk him. I’d better go. Enjoy!

through a child’s eyes

DSC_3102.jpgToday I took Marie and Cole to the Long Beach Aquarium. I wasn’t sure how it would go considering Cole’s age and unpredictable mood but it went rather well! Cole sat in the stroller most of the day and appeared so engaged in each exhibit. He will look at anything you point to and watches the fish so intently. He’s also walking now so he had some time to wander the halls freely and lean up against the glass to see the fish. Overall, I think he had a good time and Marie seemed to enjoy it herself. Afterwards we had lunch at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., which was across the street. It was such a nice and sunny day that eating out on the patio was very pleasant. The service was not as cheesy as I had remembered it to be and Cole contently sat in his stroller eating his turkey, bread, fish, and avocado. Boy, can he eat! By the end of the meal, all three of us were stuffed and the birds had a feast with all the food that Cole had dropped on the floor.
Later in the afternoon, I had to babysit Cole while Marie had to take care of some business. So, I baracaded my livingroom and hung out with him for about an hour or so. The dog and I even took him for a walk to the park and had some snack together. I’m so happy that Cole was in a good mood today. It made that hour so much less stressful than the last time I babysat. Phew!

Let there be light!

I got my Speedlight SB-600 in the mail today and what fun it is! Now I just have to figure out all the ins and outs of this little ditty. I took it to the aquarium last night to test it out but it’s a little annoying to the public when you’re playing paparazzi with the fishies. So, I cut that out after the first 10 minutes. I later took it home and shot some photos of my dog, of course, and nearly blinded him after the 10th shot in a row. I used to be a flash hater but I’ve converted and flash CAN be your friend…sometimes. Check out this photo of my sneakers. I can’t wait to test it out on Cole this afternoon when he and Marie come over. Muhahaha…
