fruits and veggies

On Sunday morning, the Brother and I went to two Farmers’ Markets. One was down the street from the apartment and the other was a much larger one in Santa Monica. It was so nice to walk around and to be surrounded by the smell of citrus and berries. The colors were so vibrant and an aura of “granola” filled the parking lot. I ended up bringing home asparagus, white peaches, strawberries, daisies, and about 45 photos of fruits and vegetables.

In the afternoon, we drove down to Melrose Ave. and walked around in an antique fair. It was outdoors and people were sellling all kinds of junk. I did, however, score a rare red cover “Catcher in the Rye” for 5 bucks…a nice find. We then walked down the street and browsed through the shops and got a few more photos taken.

I would consider this to be a pleasant Sunday filled with lots of walking, exploring, and photo-snappin’. Until next time, Brother.

Bipolar

artshow_bipolar.jpg

I’m at the 2nd WORK Artshow, which seems to be quite a success. The theme this time is “Bipolar” and people interpreted it in various ways. It’s neat to see so many creative people all in one little room sharing the stories behind their pieces. I missed the last one, “Robots and Bunnies”, but saw all the pieces hanging in the back room. It’s funny that Jes went to that one while I was at a bridal shower and now I’m at this one while Jes is at a bachelor party. Hey, Kenneth came by too! That was cool.

Anyway, I’m hanging out with the brother and his friends and I trying out a fast lens (Nikon 50mm f1.4) that I rented for the weekend. It normally retails for about $280 but I got to rent it for $12 for the entire weekend! It was well worth it too because I didn’t have to use flash all night. I can’t believe the low light shots that I was taking and how clear they came out. I may be renting it one more time for Patty’s wedding next Saturday and it will probably be one to put on my wishlist.

It’s time to archive.

October 1990

My Labor Day Weekend was very relaxing

  • On Saturday, I went with Patty to the wedding gown shop to learn how to bustle her dress for the wedding.
  • On Sunday, I had a little BBQ with the husband in our patio.
  • Today, we went to To’s 30th Birthday Party at Liberty Park in the afternoon and then had some home cookin’ with the parents in the evening.

While I was home, I searched for my old photo albums. I came upon albums starting from 8th grade all the way up to sophomore year of college. Jackpot! Unfortunately, the albums were falling apart and they take up a lot of space. So, I decided to start an archive. I’m going to pull them all out, scan my favorites into my computer, and then store all the photos in neatly organized boxes. It’s time to toss those albums! I also found some old negatives that I’m going to file away with the photos. This is truly when I appreciate the Digital Age. I just need to make sure everything is backed up at least 3 times just in case my admin decides to kill one of our hard drives again.

Get a load of this photo taken June 1993. In preparation for Patty and Johnny’s wedding slideshow, Johnny and I were exchanging photos and he sent this one to me. Boy, I don’t even know where my copy of this photo is but it has to be one of my favorites.

Just a little more vacation left…

My official first day back to work is this Friday but unfortunately I have a meeting already scheduled tomorrow morning and Thursday morning. Booo…. One good thing about it is that I will be able to “flex” those days later in the year. So, I’m going to just loaf around the house today to make the most of my last day off.

As you may have noticed, I changed the theme of beakatude. I’m currently dabbling in some photo album software/plugins including the possible use of Flickr. *grr* In the past, Flickr hasn’t really impressed me but they have a few features that would be nice to use on WordPress if they actually worked.

Oh yeah, I also signed up for a Beginning Photography class that starts mid-September. It requires the use of my 35mm SLR again, which will be a nice change. I’m just curious to see how my skills compare to the last time I took a photography class back in 1995. I can’t wait to get high on the processing chemicals.

Until next time…

Our last couple days in Hawaii were pretty laid back. We went snorkeling and had drinks at the pool. We took Yoon to dinner at a fancy restaurant on the 30th floor of our hotel. We went to the Honolulu Zoo to visit the elephants and saw our last Hawaiian sunset last night.
The red-eye flight was quick since I didn’t even wait until take-off to fall asleep. We arrived in Orange County around 8:30 am and Jes went to work. I spent the day running errands and picking up the dog from my mom’s house.
Here are the photos from the trip. Hang in there…I uploaded 184 photos.
