The Old Guys

Both Bang and Ryan turned 34 this month and they were celebrated within about a week of each other. We went out for Happy Hour two Fridays ago for Bang’s and then dinner last night for Ryan’s.

Happy Birthday, Old Guys!

Phoenix Photos

With all the craziness of getting paperwork graded and fina exam questions written, I neglected all of the photos I took in Phoenix.  I finally went through and uploaded a few.  For being the 5th largest city in the U.S., Phoenix certainly needs to grow just a little more for me to return.  My visit felt similar to my visit to Charlotte where downtown wasn’t much more than a few tall buildings and anything outside of that was residential or rural-looking.  Their Children’s Hospital is beautiful and brand-spankin’ new.  So was the Sheraton.  The 2-day workshop was helpful and it was a lot of fun catching up with Elaine and Arlene who also attended the course with me.

Here are the photos from my weekend in Phoenix, Arizona.

Lam Housewarming

On Saturday, we went to the Lams’ to warm up their new house in Redwood City. It’s a cute 3-bedroom house complete with a backyard and lots of indoor space. Koa got to come along and got to check out Kona’s new home too. They had Street Fighter for Wii with arcade controllers for a true retro experience. Congratulations to Jen, Kevin, and Kona!!

Here are the photos.

Missing the Rockstar and a Tob

On Sunday evening, two thirds of Roebling got together for an extra special Sunday Supper.  G and Dena traveled across the country to spend Thanksgiving on the west coast and they brought their little guy Andersen.

He’s only 6 weeks older than Jack so it was really fun to watch the two of them play side-by-side.

Ryan prepared a standing rib roast with yorkshire pudding and we brought over mashed potatoes and creamed corn.  In fact, I made Lawry’s creamed corn from a recipe I found on the interwebs!!  Yum yum!

We all sat around the table eating off of the Sokol-Juns’ bone china wishing that Joel and Tob were also there.  It was so nice to catch up with old friends over good food.  It definitely a pleasant way to end my Thanksgiving weekend.

Here are the rest of the photos.

Bag-o-licious

On Sunday, we took Muni across town to check out Eleen’s booth at Bazaar Bizarre.  Her booth was in the corner but she managed to get quite a bit of traffic.

Of course, her bags and accessories were oh so yummy and we were all very excited for her.

It was fun walking around and checking out all the other booths too.

There was a booth that featured plush pork products and another that sold plush human organs.

I came home with a couple Christmas gifts and picked up my very own Big Lug too.  Yay!  I love it!

Great job, Eleen!!  And congratulations on another successful event!  For a closer look at her products, go to eleen.com.

Here are photos from our afternoon of craft browsing and burger eating.

Certified

This afternoon, we had our make-up session to complete Basic Keelboat Sailing II.  There was more wind today that made it much easier to understand the maneuvers.  We also got a much nicer 27-foot boat with a genoa, which was pretty neato.

The focus of today’s lesson was going through the Man Overboard Drill that involved throwing over a life jacket (our man overboard), making a figure-8 and sailing past the “man” with just the right speed and angle to pick it up out of the water.  In addition to today, we had to demonstrate a bunch of maneuvers to get checked off by our instructor and then we went back to the office and took the certification test.  Jes and I both passed the written test so we are officially certified in Basic Keelboat Sailing and can take out 20-foot sail boats on our own.

The next step is Basic Coastal Cruising, which is another weekend of lessons and another test.  Jes is going to take this one without me (to save money) and we should soon be able to take a larger boat out on the water on our own.  Yay!

Here are the photos from all three days.
