Busy Saturday. Lazy Sunday.

After my run on Saturday, I had a MASSIVE headache. It was probably a combination of dehydration and strain from not wearing sunglasses on the run. I took a nap and finally got enough energy to crawl into the car to go to Dayantha’s house. Once I got there, I think the medicine or caffeine that I took kicked in just in time and was in good enough shape for the pool party that Ti threw for Thilan’s bday. We got to eat some food, hang out by the pool, and watch the kids (and Dayantha) hit the pinata. Later in the evening we stopped by my cousin’s house for his 30th bday party and hung out for a bit while they played a 3-table poker tournament.
At 10, went met up with the Tranandos again at Cohiba Club in Long Beach. It wasn’t bad except for the stupid $20 cover. To also flirted her way into the VIP room and got th rest of us in too. The room wasn’t so special. However, Dayantha did notice that there were a lot more girls than guys in there. The dj sucked but we got to drink and dance until they kicked us out. Victor and Susie met up with us after their wedding and we all ate at Denny’s like old times. I can’t believe we didn’t get home until 4:30 in the morning. Whew…it’s been a while since we’ve done that. Sunday was a certainly a day of rest. We got up really late. Jes didn’t go for his 7am bike ride. We had Spam and eggs for breakfast. Watched the Tour (awesome stage, by the way) all afternoon. The brother came over to fat out with us for the rest of the evening. Topped off the evening with a BBQ and beer in the jacuzzi. Is it time to go back to work already?!

I have a headache.

Last night, we went out to Dragon in Hermosa Beach with Dayantha, Johnny, and Mary. Ti, Thilan, To, her friend, and Ray met up with us too. Luckily, I had taken a quick nap in the car on the way because I was really tired and ready to go to bed by 9pm. Thanks to the nap, I was awake and ready to play. This place was not bad for the $5 cover. The music was good, the drinks were good, it was fun watching the DJ do his thing, and I think the boys enjoyed the pole dancer on the counter. The crowd was pretty mixed and didn’t seem to be the typical whitey beach crowd that we usually see in the area. I think they were all at Sharkey’s. By the end of the night, we were all liquored up (except for the brother – thanks, Johnny) and the cops were ushering us off the pier. I’m just glad that we got out of there without Jesse getting arrested. I don’t think it’s a good idea to point at a cop when he’s coming at you. Anyway, we slept in Cerritos last night, woke up at 10:30, and now I have a headache to nurse today. Good times.

Superman got burned

We had our first bonfire of the summer at good ol’ Huntington Beach tonight. Dayantha and Johnny brought us a fried chicken dinner while Jes and I went for a little run. Holly, Annie, and Eric later met up with us for roasted marshmallows and s’mores as we sipped our alcoholic beverage of choice out of water bottles and sipper cups. Speaking of roasted marshmallows…each time the fire looked like it was dying, someone had to put another log in the pit. This eventually became Jes’ job and he managed to gently place each log into the fire with his hand clearly in the fire without getting burned. Eric kept saying, “Superman!” However, as the last log was placed, “Superman” finally got bit by the fire. There must have been some kryptonite in that particular log.

Totoro Reunion 2005

Gosh, the last time the three totoros were together was at my wedding almost 2 1/2 years ago. Since then, the three of us have gone through a lot of crazy life experiences and lost touch. I think we each had to crawl into our hermit holes at different times and now we’re all ready to play at the same time. So on Saturday morning, Heather and I got up early to pick up a gift at BabiesRUs and headed down to San Diego. We just found out that Dahlia is expecting her first baby this month and couldn’t wait to see her. We took the scenic route down (through Laguna Beach), endured some traffic at Del Mar, and finally got to her condo by lunchtime. As usual, you could smell something cooking in the hallway and as we expected, it was “Mama Bird’s” condo! When she came to the door, the first thing out of her mouth was “Did you eat yet? I gotta feed my baby birds!” It turns out that she had prepared us a steak, potatoes, sauteed mushrooms/onions, and a bowl of canned corn!! I couldn’t believe how much food there was!! Ah, I miss OT school. It was just like old times. We were so stuffed. As if that wasn’t enough, Dahlia pulled out a cake she had bought to celebrate all our birthdays from the past years.
Dahlia was all baby. From the back, she looked normal but from the side, it looked like she had stuffed a pumpkin under her shirt. That baby definitely has those Samoan genes!! Keni was home for just a bit before he had to go to work but it was nice to see him again. We had so much fun just hanging out with her at home. We shared photos with each other and finally got to catch up on each other’s lives. With Heather in Portland, me in Irvine, and Dahlia in San Diego, it’s so hard to get together. This was a really special day. I can’t remember the last time I had laughed so hard.
The drive home was quick. After dinner we enjoyed a bottle of wine and watched “Sideways”. It was an interesting movie. I just feel a little slow b/c I still don’t know why it’s called “Sideways”.

Water sucks.

The weather was great this weekend so we went to the dog park on Saturday. Koa didn’t really enjoy the water. In fact, he hates water. While the labs are jumping into the waves and having a great time, Koa stands along around and runs away from the tide. At one point, he got so mad at us for throwing him in that he threatened to run back up the cliff and into the street. Crazy pup. Later that night, Patty and Johnny brought Mochi over on their way back down to San Diego. The dogs had a gay ol’ time while we ate dinner.
Today, we went to Carlsbad to have lunch with Huy. We ate at Pizza Port where we had really good pizza and spicy wings. Afterwards we took a walk around their Village Fair. It was basically like a swap meet full of people hocking their wares for a few bucks. There were way too many people and way too much junk for one afternoon.

It’s Nemo!

We went to the Long Beach Aquarium yesterday to visit our fishie friends. We had a charter membership back when it opened a few years ago but haven’t been back recently. Since then, the fishies have grown and it’s gotten rather crowded. However, we still got to enjoy the exhibits and “stim” off the moving fish. What I’ve realized during this trip is how popular clown fish and blue tangs have become. Unfortunately, none of the kids know their real names. All you hear is “It’s Nemo! It’s Dory!” At least their interested in our oceans and hopefully they’ll grow up trying to protect the Nemos and Dorys that we still have left.
