It’s been a while.

We met up with Dayantha, Huy, Ti, Thilan, Krishani, Derek, and Elise last night at Shark Club in Costa Mesa. The club was decorated for Halloween with plenty of people dressed up. The cover was pretty unreasonable but the price for a drink wasn’t so bad. All I know is that I had quite a few vodka tonics on an empty stomach and whew! I was nice and toasty by the end of the night and wide awake! You know…taking a nap before going out really helps. Anyway, we had fun and got to see some pretty skimpy costumes. Jesse always says that Halloween seems to bring out the “inner slut” in girls. It seemed rather true last night. Our waitress was a “slutty cop” and there were a bunch of just “slutty [fill in the blank]”. Girls get pretty creative and manage to hike up the hem lines and push up the boobs whenever possible. I suppose that’s why there were so many guys out last night…to check out the final package. Afterwards we stopped at Denny’s for some grease and sugar where the topic of conversation revolved around what Dayantha’s type was…pretty funny. Jes got us home in one piece and I slept in this morning with a headache and a couple trips to the bathroom to get rid of all that I had in my system. I made some coffee and rice porridge for breakfast and all is well in the world again. I can’t remember the last time I got this faded. Cheers and Happy Halloween!

wow…so many markers

Marie picked me up yesterday afternoon to go paper shopping with her. She’s starting a little invitations/baby announcments company out of her home and needed to find paper for her samples. So, with Cole in tow, we stopped at one place and it was shut down. Then we went to this other place in Irvine and it was so awesome! While Marie browsed the paper section, I took Cole around through the rest of the store. There were two aisles where every imaginable marker could be found. Do you need a Pentel marker in fine point in Burnt Sienna? They’ve got it. Need a permanent Sharpie-brand oil-based poster marker in baby pink? Yep, got that too. It definitely is an art student’s place to be. I so wish that I had the time and motivation to take some classes or just dabble in something. I suppose this website and my photography projects are enough for now. I’ve been wanting to sign up for a Chinese brush-painting class for over a year now but haven’t made the commitment. I’ve been thinking of taking a darkroom refresher course for two years now…still haven’t. I don’t get it. I guess by the time I’m done with work, I’m ready to just go home. Going to a 3-hour night class twice per week just doesn’t seem very appealing to me at the moment. Maybe I’ll take a short class next August when I won’t be working and won’t be at camp. That’s it…that’s what I’ll do.

New Plane, Better Trip

In planning for our Thailand trip, I did some research on our flight, our seat assignments, etc. First of all, they changed our 20-hour flight with one stop in Japan to a 16-hour non-stop flight!! Excellent. Secondly, Thai Airways upgraded their fleet of planes to the Airbus A340-500. I didn’t really know what that meant for us but after doing a little more research I found out that it’s awesome! Of course their “Royal Silk Class” will be sleeping on flat-reclining seats and Premium Economy will have slightly more legroom. But in ECONOMY, we’ll have in-seat personal entertainment featuring on-demand movies, video games, and music. It’s like JetBlue! I also read that each seat will have a PC Power connection to keep your laptop charged the whole way! Woohoo!! We are ghetto-ing-it-up in style!! Brother, Daddy, Jes…if you’re reading this, I think you need to get up out of your seat right now and do a happy dance. Ready? 1-2-3…go!
Ok, time for the daily recap. I essentially had a half-day of work today since our usual afternoon Staff Meeting was cancelled. Yippee! So, I made a date with Marie and Cole. We went out for lunch. We went shopping at IKEA. We even went to Mitsuwa Marketplace! Fun times for us all…even for Taku-chan. He was in a good mood all afternoon and didn’t cry or fuss until the very end as we drove back to my house. Phew!

Are we that old already?

Last night we went to The Harp Inn in Newport Beach to watch one of Jes’ co-workers play in his band called “Velicious”. They’re a group of old guys having a good time on stage playing and singing covers all night while we sit around and drink beer. Huy also met up with us and it sounded like he had an awesome month in Peru (he just got back).
As we watched the band play, we noticed how old the crowd was…I’d say late 30’s, some early 40’s. Although I recognized 75% of the songs they played, I was about done and ready to go home by the first act. It was somewhat entertaining to see a handful of women who looked like former-sorority girls trying to dance and “party on” to covers of Guns and Roses and Iron Maiden. This was not exactly my idea of a good time but they were obviously enjoying themselves. Huy, don’t worry, we’re not that old yet. I’ll let you know when we are.

Phew, shopping is hard work.

I spent the day with Marie and Cole today. Marie picked me up and we went out for lunch and then shopped at IKEA for almost 2 hours. With just some fussiness, one feeding, and a nap, the afternoon went rather smoothly. It’s just funny how everything takes 1.5 times as long when you travel with an infant. There’s just so much to take care of and pay attention to. I don’t know how moms do it. Marie always says that it’s hard work just to get the to grocery store.

worth the wait

The Jack Johnson concert last night at Irvine Meadows really fun! We bought tickets back in March and it felt like August would never come. But August 7th arrived and it was worth the wait. The weather was pleasant, the venue was right next to our house, our seats weren’t too shabby, and Jack rocked. It certainly wasn’t a bad way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon. Once I get some freetime, I’ll post my bootleg video clips of the concert. I actually captured video clips of “Taylor”, “Do You Remember?”, and some others. 🙂
