Note to self: turn the lights off

I don’t really have a consistent bedtime.  In fact, I’m notorious among my friends for having narcoleptic tendencies.  I can fall asleep anytime and anywhere.  OK.  That said, I think I can fall asleep under the most unusual conditions but apparently I don’t sleep very well.  Last night, like many other nights, I fell asleep watching TV and left the lights on.  Jesse was up late playing WoW and turned the lights off at about 3 am.  So, I woke up feeling very lethargic and had a splitting headache all day.  I even had to call in sick today.  So, I think it’s time to set an 11 pm bedtime.  I don’t like taking sick days – it stresses me out.

Make the pounding stop!

studying_03.jpgI’m in super-detox mode and it sucks. I decided to lay off the morning cup of coffee and I’m certainly paying for it. I didn’t think that I drank enough to get withdrawal symptoms but I’m in the trenches at this point.

It started yesterday when I woke up at 9 am and didn’t have my usual cup of coffee. I had a tingling, unpleasant ache above my left eyebrow and it slowly spread to the forehead and top of my head. I decided to ride it out and see if I could beat this thing. Unfortunately, it didn’t go away and I had to drop the dogs off at Pacific Whey at Crystal Cove. Patty invited me for brunch there so I sat and ate half of the salad she ordered for me. After 20 minutes of trying to hang tight, I had to leave because of an awful nauseating feeling that came over me. I drove home as carefully as possible and ended up sleeping from 2:00 pm until this morning at 7:00 am.

I felt a little better this morning but as the day progressed my head got worse. I thought, “Pop a pill? No, those have caffeine in them.” So, I’m sitting here about 60 hours away from my last cup of coffee and still dying. This sucks but people have told me that that it’s better for my health to kick the caffeine habit. I’m crossing my fingers for my head to stop pounding by tomorrow morning or I’m calling in sick.

You know you’re a WoW Widow when…

  • you know where all the WiFi spots are in Hawaii
  • you’re planning your day without him
  • you make dinner just quick enough for him to take a break before his next raid
  • you sleep diagonally on the queen-sized bed
  • you’re awoken at about 3 am by someone shoving you over back to your side of the bed
  • you’ve run out of TiVo programming
  • you can have a bridal shower in your home with most of the guests not knowing that your husband was home the whole time
  • your dog no longer responds to his call
  • your neighbors think he’s commuting across the country again
  • the trash doesn’t get taken out on Thursday nights
  • your chair cushions are flattened
  • you go on shopping sprees without a second thought
  • you consider playing SimCity again
Maybe I should consider buying this.

It’s detox time!

AppleCinnamon.jpgThis past week was chock-full of booze, fried foods, fruity drinks with coconut cream in them, and pork products (mostly Spam). When I got back yesterday from our trip, I was feeling really blah…sorta like I had a hangover without having to drink the night before. So, I thought it was time to detox today. This morning started with a cup of coffee and a bowl of cereal. The apple-cinnamon is my favorite. For lunch, I made a big mixed greens salad with chicken, celery, grape tomatoes, and a little bit of cottage cheese. It was actually pretty tasty. For dinner, I’m going to make a pasta salad with chicken, tomatoes, garlic, basil, and olive oil. Tasty. Here’s to detox time!

Weekend Recap

On Saturday, I loafed around and managed to finish 5 loads of laundry between my four-hour nap and watching Good Eats. In the evening, Johnny came over and we went to Debbie’s 30th Birthday Party, which was a “Black and White Ball” with everyone dressed in all white or all black. They went all out with a bartender, poker tables, and chocolate fountain. Happy Birthday, Deb!
On Sunday, the Brother and I had a day in the suburbs complete with a neighborhood jog, breakfast at Denny’s, shopping at Target, shopping at the grocery store, and making chili at home. Exciting, I know. Jes came home from Vegas and we spent the rest of the evening watching TV.
Despite the lack of excitement and adventure, I’m feeling well rested with clean clothes to wear and 3-days worth of lunches ready to go!

and the doors opened…

I had a fun fun afternoon. I was on my way to the Nordstrom at the Spectrum to find myself driving past the long-awaited Target that is scheduled to open on the 23rd. Well, I was pleasantly surpised to see people coming out of the doors with shopping carts and bags of stuff. Wha?! Is my beloved Target new, clean, and ready for me to visit?! I parked my car and walked up to see if it was true and I was welcomed by the automatic door, beckoning me to enter. YES!!
I ended up browsing and shopping for over an hour and a half with my cart filled with two new pairs of shoes, a new purse, a shirt for Jesse, and a bunch of other stuff that I may have been able to do without. But it’s Target! It’s my most favorite-est store in the whole wide world with brand new aisles fully stocked and organized by color and style. How could I resist?! Apparently, I was there on their second day of opening and it was soooo empty. They were open yesterday for only 4 hours so I’d just have to say that I’m one of their first customers and kicked it off with a “cha-ching” for them. Oh, I could go on and on about my afternoon. Did I mention that there’s a mini-grocery store and fully-loaded Starbucks in my new Target? The best part of it all is that it’s only one freeway exit away from my house (3.3 miles to be exact) with very little surface street driving and ample parking. Life is good.
