signing my life away…

dsc_6798.jpg

This morning we signed the contract for the new condo and will be FedEx’ed to the builder on Monday.  It seems way too easy.  I guess it won’t actually hit me until I have to make our first mortgage payment.  It’s going to be painful.  Hopefully we’ll find someone to rent our place soon.

Packing has been quite a headache but it’s moving along.  Frames are coming down, books are being put in boxes, and piles of “stuff we’re giving away” are accumulating around the house.  I’m going to miss our little birdhouse.  Unfortunately, this birdhouse makes our new place feel like a fish bowl.  Here are photos of the new place.  If all works out, we’ll be moving in in mid-August.

out with the old and almost new

We’re in major clearance mode right now. It’s like Spring Cleaning on crack.  This evening we filled about 5 large trashbags with old clothes and they’re going to Goodwill tomorrow. It’s amazing how much you can accumulate over time.  Some items I kept for sentimental value but others just had to go. There were even some cute shirts that I’ve favored over the years but they just had to go because of frayed seams or they lost their shape over time. Ah…I feel lighter already.

On Sunday, my brother is coming over with a U-Haul. We’ve invited family members to come over to claim anything we aren’t taking up with us. I’ll certainly miss our beloved dining room table and chairs but I’m happy that it’s going to The Magical House.

House Hunt

We’re up in SF this weekend to start our search for housing. It’s crazy how little space you get for so much money. We have a couple of possible places and have decided that we will most likely purchase something. I still think it’s crazy that within less than a week, we’re up in SF looking for a place to live and planning life outside of Irvine. As we walked around, I was scoping out places for Koa to pee and where the closest ATMs were. This is insane.

Oh yeah, we got to see Ryan and Michelle’s newly renovated loft.  Nice job, guys!!  Here are some photos.

Farewell Beigia. Hello Gaysia.

baybridge.jpgWe are moving to San Francisco!! That’s right! Jes interviewed with Jimmy’s company on Wednesday and got an offer on Monday morning. It’s amazing how much can change in less than a week.

So, the husband, dog, and I will be leaving the land of perfectly groomed lawns and 10:00 curfews for a place where rainbow flags wave freely and public transportation is no longer an inconvenience.

Jes will move up first to start his new job at the beginning of July while I stay behind for at least another month to complete the school year (goes until end of July).

Where will we live? In the city…hopefully close to the baseball stadium.

What am I going to do? Sit around and play WoW. Haha. Just kidding. I’m just considering all my career options. Should I jump right into another school-based job? Should I consider a hospital setting? Perhaps I should find something completely different! Anyone need a photographer?!

Am I excited? Yes. Will I miss my family? Of course. Am I nervous? Absolutely. Do I look forward to lots of visitors from Southern California?! You betcha!!

He fought a good fight.

I am sorry to announce the death of our friend Scrappy. We found him in the pond swimming upside down on January 31st, rescued him from the current, and he stayed alive for another month. He sure was a fighter and actually looked like he was going to make a full recovery.  Alas, his health did a little nose dive a week ago and we found him dead today in his bowl. *sniff* So long, Scrappy. You will will always be remembered as the little fishie that fought a good fight.

Ever since I was young, I felt it was important to capture memories and record my life through photography and journaling. I have albums and albums of photos – capturing every moment of my childhood, adolescence, and adult life through my eyes. I have numerous handwritten journals and a really old computer program called “Journal” on my Thinkpad that I started in college. A guy named Jesse Lim gave it to me. *wink wink* I also had a web log (before it was called a “blog”) since 2001 and remember the days of having to code EVERYTHING in html. To preserve my earlier entries, I incorporated them into beakatude. You’ll find some old entries dated back to July 2001.

When I read them, it was like looking through a time capsule. I wrote about my internships, planning my wedding, and even Jes’ accident in 2002. So weird. Much has changed since then and so has my site. It’s evolved from a geocities site that I built from scratch, then went to my own url with dreamweaver by my side, and now it’s so automated by wordpress that it doesn’t take nearly as much time and effort to keep it updated. Uploading and sharing photos is so much faster now too. I can still remember making my own thumbnails, arranging them in a table, and making links to each one individually. Man, that was time-consuming. I just love how technology now allows me to journal and share photos all in one place. Long live beakatude.com!
