Introducing…

Mr. Fizzle

…Mr. Fizzle Ma Nizzle.  He’s a gangsta fish from the ‘hood.  We passed by a fishie store on Saturday and it triggered an old itch.  We can’t seem to go very long without a swimmer in the house.  So, before I could blink an eye, we were at Petco next to the un-Safeway buying a Delta Tail Betta Fish and a 3-gallon tank.  Sweeeet…

End of the Longest Week Ever

rawr

I don’t know why but last week felt like a month.  Work was busy but the days just dragged and I was an cranky t-rex ready to bite someone’s head off.  It wasn’t until Friday that I felt a little relief.  The last treatment session of the week ended with me, Teresa (my PT partner), and our little 6-year-old patient sitting on a stoop in the courtyard eating ice cream sandwiches with a bubble machine blowing.  The sky was blue, there was a gentle breeze, and the ice cream really hit the spot.  Aaaah…

Bang

Once I got home, I put my running shoes on and headed out the door for a quick jog.  When I got back, Jes called to say that we were meeting up with the Bangs for Happy Hour at Nova.  Yay!

jes and vyl

We celebrated Bang’s new job acceptance and had a fun and crazy evening.  We all left the bar stumbling home and waking up the next morning feeling very sloooooow.

pride tasting

On Saturday morning, we headed up to Napa for the day.  We went for a tasting at Pride Mountain, had lunch at Cindy’s Backstreet Kitchen, and headed back to the city before the sun went down.

KFOG Kaboom

KFOG was also doing their fireworks show at 9 pm that night so I got to watch a really long fireworks show from the roof of our building.  Weekends rule.

12 days

We are well within Week 2 of our “Veggie Experiment“.  I haven’t tasted fish, pork, chicken, or beef for the past 12 days and it’s been ok so far.  I guess I can think of only two big bummers so far:

  1. We attempted to go out to eat on our usual Wednesday last week and it was quite a learning experience.  We chose a place we go to regularly just to see how we could make this experiment work.  Unfortunately they were serving a special “BBQ Menu” that night.  Dude!!!  It’s bad enough that I had to go veggie but I couldn’t try any of their special BBQ items!  Jes explained to the waiter that we were trying to go veggie so he brought us the bar menu and we luckily found a few items to try.  But we didn’t get to have any brisket!!!  Bummer.
  2. Today I was feeding one of my patients who is an extremely picky eater and  I managed to coax him into eating some of his omelet and pancake.  He also had 2 strips of bacon sitting there on his plate, which he COMPLETELY REFUSED.  It was killing me!!  It smelled so good and this little kid was refusing the “magical animal”!!!!!  I wanted to just gobble it up for him and pretend it never happened but I reluctantly tossed in the trash.  Double-bummer.

So, last Friday we added egg to our “OK foods” and this Friday was supposed to be when we add fish again.  However, after figuring out that my brother’s wedding reception was coming up in 2 weeks, we decided to keep going without fish for an additional week.  So, by the time the reception rolls around, we will be back to our regular carnivorous diet just in time for the tasty Thai feast.  I can’t wait!

New Game!

Lisa_the_Vegetarian.jpg

We just finished an 8-day trip filled with rich foods and tasty treats and our fridge is completely empty.  So, we’ve decided to start a new project, which we will call “The Veggie Experiment”.  Jes wanted to try eating like a vegetarian for one week.  Yep, you read it correctly.

For this week, here are the rules:

1) no beef, chicken, or pork
2) no fish
3) no eggs

Things that are ok to eat this week: dairy (yay cheese!), things made with eggs (like pasta).

Today was Day One and we went to Trader Joe’s to stock the fridge.  We bought lots of stuff that Jes would never try before but I was looking forward to trying lots of new items.  For dinner we had cheese quesadillas, black beans (Jes hates beans), salsa, and guac. Yum.

In the next few weeks we’ll add one of the forbidden items and work our way back up to being omnivores again.  It’ll start with adding eggs, then fish, and then the meats.  I’m curious to see how bacon tastes after this is over.  Does anyone want to join us?!

Married!! Woo!

Married!

Brother got married today and I gained a little sister.  At 8:45 am there was a light sprinkle and then the sun peeked out at 8:55.  We got the ceremony started and the ceremony was over by 9:05.  It was short but very sweet.  It was also one of the most intimate weddings I’ve ever attended (almost 40 guests) and it was perfect.  Joy looked stunning and Brother was a ball of excitement.  In fact, he couldn’t sleep very well the night before and decided to start his day at 4:30 am.

We spent 9:05-10:00 am taking photos with the sun shining bright.  Then, at exactly 10:00 am, it began to rain and it was just in time for Brunch to begin.  Nice timing!  My mom said she prayed for some sun until 10 and she got it!

Brunch

Brunch was inside The Veranda, overlooking the ocean, and was complete with mimosas, eggs benedict, and just about every breakfast item you could imagine.  I gave a stirring speech that managed to get Brother teary-eyed along with my cousins sitting in the corner of the room.

Family

This is certainly a happy day for us Chimmys and Chammys.  🙂 Yay!

Taste of the Good Life

On Sunday, Kev and Karrie came to SF for the day. Jes picked them up from the airport in the morning and then we were off to the Four Seasons. The brother of a very wealthy Las Vegas tycoon lives in one of the Penthouses there and I got to check it out.

It’s 4500 square feet of ridiculousness complete with a 270-degree view of the city (including OUR home), steam room, guest suite with separate entrance from the hallway, and MAID’S QUARTERS with an amazing view of its own.  Can you spot our building in the photo?!

maid's quarters

This is the view from the Maid’s Quarters…crazy, right?!

For lunch, we had dim sum at Mayflower, which appearently isn’t as good as it used to be the last time Kev was in SF but Jes and I still enjoyed it.

uni and oysters

For dinner, we went to Ozumo for the craziest omakase meal of dish after dish after dish. Everything was oh so tasty and I even tried uni (sea urchin) for the first time and enjoyed it!!

After all this indulgence and seeing what the “best of the best” looked like, I realized that I didn’t really need 4500 square feet. The view is amazing but it might not be worth the extra 8 million it would cost to live there. I went home and truly appreciated what I already had. Sure, I don’t have a million-dollar view of the city but I really like where we live and how much space we have for now. Come to think of it,  I don’t know how I maintained our 3-bedroom house in Irvine.

karrie and beak

Anyway, it was great to see Kevin and Karrie again. I just realized that it had been about 2 years since I last saw them and I’m looking forward to our next trip to Vegas to visit them. Their twins are adorable and I can’t wait to finally meet them.
