OK…we’re back now.

We arrived in SF on Saturday night around 9 pm.  It’s back to reality for now.  The weather is cooler here but the rain is trippin’ me out!  Why does it seem like it’s raining everywhere in the world right now?  Anyway, Mommy is still here and we took her out for some Dim Sum and Thai food on Sunday.   But that was after we had McDonald’s breakfast as our first meal back in SF.  I truly missed having an American breakfast of eggs, meat, and potatoes.  The cappuccinos were good there but I also missed regular coffee.  Ah…there’s nothing like brewing my usual cup of coffee and enjoying it with a Big Breakfast.

I tossed and turned on Saturday night and woke up every hour until 4 am when I simply gave up.  It’s now Monday morning and I managed to get 6 hours of sleep but I got up again at 4 am.  I even stayed up all day without a nap and this still happens?!  I’m sitting here in the dark with my laptop on as Mommy’s sleeping in the livingroom and Jes is still…wait…I hear a stirrin’…nevermind…he’s awake now too.  I’m tempted to go to work super early but I probably won’t.

Photos are slowly getting processed and I should have updates on each city this week.

“Quiet Nights” two years later

Just got back from seeing Diana Krall in concert at the Davies Symphony Hall.  It’s part of her “Quiet Nights” World Tour and it had been close to 2 years exactly since we last saw her at Hollywood Bowl.  This was a more intimate setting and the crowd wasn’t nearly as rowdy but I think it was because of the venue.  Anyhoo, she was as charming as usual and her piano-playing skillz still amaze me.  She also talked about her life as a mom and said that her twin boys are 2 1/2 years old now.  When we last saw her, she just had the babies and was just getting back to work.  My how time flies.

As we were walking to the Muni station on our way home I was reflecting on how we’ve been here in SF for two years now.  In fact, my work anniversary is tomorrow!  It’s crazy how long we’ve been here and yet I still feel like a n00b.  I guess the LA in me will never die.

All in all I’m happy to be where I am and I’m enjoying life in the best way I can.  I actually like the colder weather, LOVE going out to eat up here, and work has been quite the learning experience for me even two years later.  In just the past week I’ve made knee extension splints, a middle finger splint, and hospital pants held together with Velcro!  Yep, I was putting my sewing skills to use once again.

It’s been a fun two years and going to this concert was a great way to celebrate.  I wonder how many more years we have left here…

I’m hungry.

Jes has been in NYC all week for work and it was like a throw back to our old Charlotte days.  I think I managed everything on my own just fine but I noticed a few things while I had the house to myself.

1. I haven’t had to pick up any clothes off the floor.

2. I was still glued to the Tour de France.  I guess I really am a fan.

3. I didn’t sleep any better than usual.

4. I was still motivated to go for my regular runs.

5. I turned the stove on only once to boil an egg.

6. Cereal still makes an awesome dinner.

7. I’m too lazy to make anything else for dinner so I’m always hungry.

8. I had a craving for McDonald’s every night but refused to give in.

9. I felt like a mute this week.

10. I missed my best friend.

So, now it’s Friday evening and I’m currently packing up Koa’s belongings ‘cuz he’s going to sleep over at the Bangs’ this weekend.  I still have to pack my suitcase and will be leaving for Vegas tomorrow morning.  Jes will be meeting us there and it should be a nice long weekend for me to get some sun, relax in a nice hotel, and eat some tasty food.

I guess I was sick.

On Saturday morning I was pretty tired but I thought it was because we were out late the night before.  As the day went on, I was so thirsty.  I thought it was just because it was 90 degrees outside.  Towards the latter half of the wedding reception, I threw up my dinner and became really tired and achey.  I couldn’t keep my eyes open and had to take multiple naps.  At first I thought it could have been the alcohol but I had stopped drinking at least an hour before that happened.

On Sunday morning I didn’t have much of an appetite and I had to take multiple naps thoughout the afternoon on our flight home, on the car ride to Costco, and on the ride home from Costco.  Well, it turned out that I had a fever of almost 100 degrees and had to take a long afternoon nap.  I woke up this morning feeling absolutely crummy and had to stay home for the day.  So, I hung out in bed all day, had a little bit of the chicken soup that Jes made for me last night, and finally feel a little more like myself this evening.  Hopefully I will be 100% by tomorrow morning.

Lazy Day

day off

I have only an hour or so left of my long weekend and it was great.  Today was my official day off and I lazied around with the dog all afternoon.  This photo is pretty much what my day looked like: me on the bed with the laptop and Koa nappin’ in his bed.  The window shades were open and I watched the clouds dance over the building.  The sun came in and out throughout the day and it was fun to watch.

I also managed to get my butt out of the bed a few times to go out for a run and for lunch with Susie.  We had chicken and waffles at Farmer Brown’s Little Skillet, which is just a quick hop across the street and typically open only M-F from 11-2.  It’s a tiny window in an alley and usually has a long line.  We got there a little after 1:00 with no line and enough sun to sit out on the loading platform across the way.

When Jes got home from work, we went for another run and I got to try out my new headphones and the new music I just loaded onto the iPod.

Today was a good day.  I guess I’m ready to go back to work now…if I must.

Long Weekend

I had a rough work week and I’m so relieved that it’s Saturday.  We finally discharged two of our more intense patients (after two months of Rehab) on Thursday and our new one has been a handful.  Without getting into a lot of detail, my patience, endurance, and mental fortitude were pushed to their limits this week leaving me depleted.  So, it’s Saturday now and my boss gave me Monday off.  Ah…I love random 3-day weekends.

On top of all that, Jes is out in the woods this weekend for another wild and crazy ManKamp so I’m having a lot of “me time”.  It has been pretty awesome.  So far, I’ve been to a going-away party, had drinks with a friend on the roof of my building, slept in until 10 am, and spent 2 hours at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market browsing and tasting all there was to offer.  The sun is out, there’s a load of laundry going, and I’m in bed sipping coffee at 4:30 in the afternoon.  Nice.

I don’t have much planned for the rest of the weekend and I like it that way.  Hmm…what should I have for dinner tonight?
