Surprise! Spring is here!

When I woke up to the alarm at 6:30 yesterday morning, it felt like 7:30. The sun was shining through my window coverings and the birds were already tweeting. I did a double-take on the clock and thought, “Hm..that’s funny…what’s going on?” Well, it turns out that yesterday was the first day of Spring. Can you believe it?! I just went skiing yesterday in 30 degree weather!
At the school where I work, I’ve noticed quite a few caterpillars walking around. They’re actually quite cute – fuzzy and black all over with a red stripe down its back. Last Friday, I looked up outside my portable to find a bunch of them hanging from the ceiling. Hm…looks like their going to sleep. Well, when I got inside my office, I found one just like the others outside hanging upside-down from the handle of a Starbucks bag I had under my desk! When I got back this morning (Monday), it had turned into a chrysalis! Wow! I feel like I’m in 1st grade learning about nature for the first time! I wonder what kind of butterfly it will turn into. Jesse thinks it’ll be a moth but I don’t think so. I just wonder how he’s going to get outside once he’s emerged from his cocoon. I think I’ll name him…Spud.

Plane – Incoming!

Happy 30th Birthday, Huy! Last night Jes and I went down to San Diego to celebrate Huy’s Big Three-O. Dinner was at Indigo Grill in Little Italy, which was not bad. The ambience was cool and we got a big oval table up front. The food had a southwestern flare and all had some “kick” to them. They also brought Huy and the rest of us 3 large platters of desserts on the house at the end of the night. The coconut creme brulee was very yummy. Afterwards we all went to Airport Lounge where Huy reserved two big booths and invited a bunch of people he worked with. He has a lot of friends! Anyway, if you were part of his “guest list” you had no cover and got to make your own vodka or rum drinks at the booth. The coolest part of the lounge was that it was right under the flight path of planes landing in San Diego airport. You can go out to the patio and watch the plane fly right over you. They flew so low that it seemed like you could reach up and touch each one. I thought it was cool…I sat there having an Autistic moment saying, “plane!” with a big grin on my face each time one flew by.

buddies once again

Jesse and I went to Mammoth this weekend while Koa stayed with Patty. He got a fun-filled weekend of romping around with his half-brother Mochi. I was a bit worried when Mochi came over during Christmas and wanted nothing to do with him. Fortunately, they’re back in the game and have been buddies all weekend.
In other news…the snow in Mammoth was great and skiing was fun! Going on Sunday is so much better than Saturday – no long lines and lots of empty runs!! Towards the end of the day, I got the courage to take a couple of baby jumps and got some air! I’m not quite ready for the terrain park but I can jump little mounds and moguls! Lookout Johnny Mosley!
Valentine’s Day was spent on the road driving home but we got a nice dinner at The Chart House in Mammoth. Their lobster bisque, dynamite mahi, and MUD PIE were very yummy.

I (heart) Mammoth

Happy Chinese New Year! We were planning to go to Vegas for some Chinese New Year celebration with Kev this weekend but it didn’t work out. So, we’ve decided to Mammoth-it-up instead! I have a long 3-day weekend coming up so we’ll get to ski on Sunday and Monday with less crowds and the weekday rate. It’s also Valentine’s Day so it’ll be a little get-away for me and Jes. Aw…how sweet…maybe not. I still get confused by this chocolate-covered, lacey heart holiday that makes dinner twice as much and restaurants twice as crowded. Am I supposed to expect something special or is it just another one of those Hallmark holidays that make boys cringe?

Happy Groundhog Day!

Punxsutawney Phil came out and saw his shadow this morning. That means 6 more weeks of winter and I love it! Hopefully that will mean more snow and a longer ski season. We need more snow in the local mountains here…pray for snow. We’re going to Snow Valley this weekend with Jimmy and I get to try out my new skis. We stopped a really cool outlet place in Bishop where I got a pair of last-season skis with bindings for only $239. What a deal! Now I don’t have to make everyone else wait as I rent my skis like an amateur. It’s straight to the lift on Saturday, baby!

Happy New Year!!

It’s 2005 and time to make some resolutions. Jes and I successfully stood by our resolution for last year, which was avoiding fast food (particularly McDonald’s). It was tough to avoid picking up french fries at the airport but not so bad by the end of the year. This year we tweaked it. This year will be fastfood (anything we want) once per month.
We celebrated the new year last night by having Chinese food in Alhambra and welcomed the new year at KingKing in Hollywood. It was a low-key place with cheap drinks. Of course, we made the usual pitstop at Denny’s for some buffalo wings and nachos.
