Let’s go!

With excitement over going to Thailand brewing, my dad and brother have decided to go with us. They booked flights on the same planes and everything! This is going to be awesome. We’ll have someone to help translate (my dad) and someone to drink with (my brother). It’s too bad that my mom can’t get the time off but now we have someone to look after Koa! 🙂

Preparation for Jes’ 3rd-ieth birthday party is underway. I went to Party City and Target with Marie and Cole yesterday for our weekly shopping excursion and bought lots of cool stuff. I was so surprised how everything starts to add up. But it’s his 30th so we’re going all out. Left on the list…1) order food, 2) buy some prizes, and 3) recruit people help me reserve the spot on Sunday morning. It’s just too bad that a bunch of friends will be out of town this weekend. They’re going to be missing out on a “batty” party! Hee Hee.

Strong work, boys!

This morning, Jesse, Jimmy, Pish, and Jay finished their first metric century, which is 100 km or 62 miles. The event was called the Cool Breeze Century and it started in Ventura, went up to Santa Barbara, and back to Ventura. While the boys rode, Eleen, Debbie, and I drove behind them, in front of them, stopped for some luch, met them at rest stops, and took lots of photos and video. We didn’t know where to start or how to get around with the lousy directions without a map so we hopped into my car that had GPS. The hills looked rather brutal but the boys performed well.
Afterwards, Jes and I went to my parents’ house for my dad’s 61st birthday party. Man, each time I go to one of these things, there seems to be more and more people I don’t know showing up. Each person brought a Thai dish or dessert and someone even brought Thai karaoke. I was so stuffed by the end of the night. They sure do know how to throw a BBQ! Happy Birthday, Daddy!

Busy Saturday. Lazy Sunday.

After my run on Saturday, I had a MASSIVE headache. It was probably a combination of dehydration and strain from not wearing sunglasses on the run. I took a nap and finally got enough energy to crawl into the car to go to Dayantha’s house. Once I got there, I think the medicine or caffeine that I took kicked in just in time and was in good enough shape for the pool party that Ti threw for Thilan’s bday. We got to eat some food, hang out by the pool, and watch the kids (and Dayantha) hit the pinata. Later in the evening we stopped by my cousin’s house for his 30th bday party and hung out for a bit while they played a 3-table poker tournament.
At 10, went met up with the Tranandos again at Cohiba Club in Long Beach. It wasn’t bad except for the stupid $20 cover. To also flirted her way into the VIP room and got th rest of us in too. The room wasn’t so special. However, Dayantha did notice that there were a lot more girls than guys in there. The dj sucked but we got to drink and dance until they kicked us out. Victor and Susie met up with us after their wedding and we all ate at Denny’s like old times. I can’t believe we didn’t get home until 4:30 in the morning. Whew…it’s been a while since we’ve done that. Sunday was a certainly a day of rest. We got up really late. Jes didn’t go for his 7am bike ride. We had Spam and eggs for breakfast. Watched the Tour (awesome stage, by the way) all afternoon. The brother came over to fat out with us for the rest of the evening. Topped off the evening with a BBQ and beer in the jacuzzi. Is it time to go back to work already?!

*yawn*

Yesterday was a true recovery day. Jesse, Jason, Koa, and I all took turns napping-it-up. Jes had too much to drink. Jason played video games too long. The dog had eaten too much on Sunday. And I was tired from too much cleaning. Of course, we managed to all be up for a hot dog lunch before going back to sleep.
In the evening, Jes and I went to Marie’s house for some BBQ and later went to the Newport Dunes for some fireworks. The parking was a whoppin’ 12 bucks but it was right across the street. Little Cole wore a beanie to cover his ears but he actually seemed to enjoy the pretty lights in the air. Haha…so did I.

It’s a changing landscape…

Happy 4th of July! We had our BBQ yesterday and boy have things changed. A lot of the usual people came, the two doggies were running around, and we had some new additions. Marie and Kenji brought little Cole and Patti and Howard brought little Katie. I think this made us all feel just a little bit older and take perspective. Jason, Jes’ brother, even got a taste of babysitting upstairs as Cole took his nap. Good job, J! Overall, the afternoon/evening was busy with lots of eating, playing with babies, and catching up. Now it’s time to find some fireworks tonight!

I was sleeping.

Yesterday was the longest day of the year and I slept right through it. I must be overtraining or something because when I got home from work yesterday at 4pm, I fell asleep on the couch until Jes got home at 5:30. He left for his pool workout and I went upstairs to change for my run and ended up taking a second nap until 8. I woke up in utter confusion because the sun had gone to sleep and my body really didn’t want to move. So much for enjoying a day of eternal sun. At least I managed to stay up today for the second-longest day of the year.
Tomorrow is the last day of school and there will be a preschool graduation ceremony at my school. Most teachers will be saying “farewell until September” but I will be saying, “see ya in July”. I’d love to have July off but I guess I really shouldn’t complain considering all the week-long breaks that I get throughout the year. I’m actually off next week and start again on July 5th for a month of summer school. August will be off too but I’ll be working for my PTN again for my last 3 weeks of Camp Escapades. Now that it’s summer, it looks like it’s time to reinstate Bonfire Wednesdays!! Anyone want to meet us at the beach for some marshmallows?
