Guilty

Do you have a job where you’re given the biggest guilt trip EVAR when you call in sick?  Well I do.  It all started with a shallow cough yesterday at work, which got worse overnight and was coupled with some crazy aches and pains all over my body and head.  I called and left a message on my supervisor’s voicemail AND a detailed email about my schedule around 7:30 am and thought everything was taken care of.  That was, until I got a phone call a little later in the morning from my supervisor who scolded me for not calling her earlier at home or on her cell phone instead of her work voicemail.  I can see why that stressed her out since she wasn’t prepared for the schedule changes when she arrived at the hospital but I couldn’t help feeling so lousy after I hung up with her.

I certainly care about the welfare of my patients and they do deserve therapy but not from a possibly contagious therapist!  Because of the guilt-ridden day that I had at home today, I have decided to go to work tomorrow regardless of how I feel.  I currently have a 100.8-degree fever and chills.  Maybe tomorrow I can walk in with a fever and pass out in the middle of one of my sessions.  That would be awesome.

Crap x10

Jes is away for a couple days so it’s just me and the dawg this weekend. I just finished the longest week EVER so when I came home, I threw some laundry in the machine, put on my PJs, and turned on some bad TV. Friday nights are my favorite part of the week because I get to just relax, waste time, stay up late, and get stuff done (if I want to). AND I still have two more days left!!

10 crappy things that happened to me this week:

  1. I had to work on NYE
  2. I had to work on New Year’s Day.
  3. It was too cold and far away to watch the NYE fireworks.
  4. The BART ticket vendors gave me a hard time for no reason.
  5. I had to walk the dog in Hurricane winds and rain.
  6. My BART train was delayed both ways in one day totaling a 3-hour commute.
  7. Coffee spilled INSIDE my backpack and all over my jacket. Don’t ask how that happened.
  8. Dropped my brand new Crackberry on the sidewalk and now it has a gigantic scuff on the front.
  9. I had 3 kids throw up on me in one day.
  10. They ran out of oatmeal at the cafeteria this morning so I had to starve until lunch.

Thank goodness for weekends.

Waiting and More Waiting

Yes, I’m still using my Gen One iPod mini.

I’ve been known to have a lot of patience but I think I’ve been pushed to my limit this week. On Monday, I got to MacArthur BART station in record time but had to wait 20 minutes for the hospital shuttle. On Tuesday, I waited at the Muni station for an extra 20 minutes before getting on the last leg of my commute home with the train car packed in like sardines. On Wednesday, I stopped at the bank after work and had to wait a good 30 minutes for my turn with customer service. Yesterday, I got to Embarcadero BART station and had to wait 30 minutes for my train because there were mechanical problems 6 stops down. Today went a little smoother but I was just so burnt out that I was ready to pull all my hair out.

With all this waiting and train-riding, I decided to take some photos. I thought that I might as well since I spend about 2 hours per day going to and from work everyday.

Here’s what’s in my Timbuktu…apparently the official bag of San Francisco.

I bought this book two years ago at an airport in Florida. I didn’t think I’d ever be so attached to this thing but I am now. I was too braindead this morning to do Level 5. Perhaps I should have taken a few more sips of my coffee.

It was a good thing I packed my Strawberry (no icing) Poptart on this day. I was starving. My fingers are all chapped from over 20 handwashes per day at work.

The sun sets just before my train enters the TransBay Tube every evening.

Special Thanks to Kevin and Bean. I listen to their Podcasts every morning and they sure do make time pass. I was literally giggling to myself like an idiot on my way home today. If I saw a girl cracking up at a Sudoku puzzle, I’d think she was a little insane.

what a waste…

p1000178b.jpgThis post is a little reflection of my first experience flying with Virgin America. I’m a frequent Southwest and JetBlue customer and this airline was worth checking out.

First of all, I scored $39 one-way tickets from SFO-LAX. Plus. However, they have only 5 daily flights to LAX right now, which seem to fill up quickly for peak travel days/times. Minus. They fly out of SFO, which has a direct connection to BART and have assigned seats. Plus. When I arrived at the gate (on time) they were delayed about 20 minutes. Minus. They had plush leather seats and power outlets in coach along with personal entertainment with DirectTV. Plus. I was pretty hungry and they didn’t give out any snacks. Minus.

The TV and video game remote is tucked away in the arm rest. That’s pretty cool.

Who doesn’t enjoy TV on a flight?! They also use Google Maps to track the flight.

Overall impressions of Virgin? It’s good and comparable to JetBlue minus the snacks and reliable entertainment. It has power for your mobile devices, which is a definite plus (esp. for cross-country flights). The purple mood lighting and loungey music is a cute touch but completely unnecessary. I would have to say that it’s a good competitor with JetBlue. Just beware of the rising prices as the airline becomes more mainstream. Until then, expect a half-empty plane (on off-peak flights) with a few kinks they have to work out. Would I fly with them again? Sure. At least I know that I have another option when I fly home or to New York.

Now for my return flight…

On my return trip today, my expected 4-hour journey (including drive time, flight, and commute on BART) turned into 7. It’s not all Virgin’s fault but it definitely tainted my first flight back with them.

My flight was scheduled for 11:40 am. We left the house at 10:15 with plenty of time to get to the airport and for check-in. We got to the airport exit around 10:40 and that’s when the day turned sour. The exit was closed and my dad and I had to circle the airport for another 45 minutes trying to find a way into the terminals. A couple of wrong turns, a closed off intersection, and unusually congested streets resulted in me getting through security and to the gate by 11:30 where the plane had already pushed back. *grr* I was booked on the 1:55 pm flight and had to hang out in Terminal 6 (probably the worst terminal ever) for another 2 hours.

Once aboard the plane, I nearly knocked at guy in the head with my backpack and had to sit next to a really snobby lady who kept scowling at me. As we pushed off and started our taxi, the plane paused with an announcement from above. There was rain in SF and we were ordered to sit on the runway for another 25 minutes. What?! By the time we took off, it was 1:30 and a half hour past the landing time of my original flight. Argh. The flight was bumpy and the DirectTV was not working the entire time. Thank goodness for the power outlet because I was then able to sort through this weekend’s photos. We landed at 4:00 pm and I was restless. I rushed over to the BART station, which is actually IN the airport and got home by 5:00 pm. I can’t believe I spent my day off traveling.

on edge

I’m such a dummy. I don’t know what’s going on but I’ve been pissing Jesse off left and right these past two days. Yesterday I scratched one of his rims on the car by driving up a small curb and today I put my AC Transit card in the cash slot and lost it. *sigh* So as I sheepishly took my seat, he said to me, “I have enough stress as it is without you giving me more.” The guy behind us in the bus line later came by and said, “My wife did that with me once too.”  Haha.  Unfortunately, that didn’t cheer Jesse up.  Poor guy. He’s been so stressed out with the loan docs getting messed up, talking to the moving company, and worrying about the car that he already sold to a guy in Palms Springs. I’m not much help, am I?

So, I’m on the Transbay bus that picks up in front of Jimmy’s house and taking it to the city. It’s so comfy in here and there’s free WiFi!! Now if only BART would start doing that…

stupid foot

It’s been a week since my foot started hurting and it hasn’t gotten any better.  I didn’t think it would affect my spirits like this but I’m totally bummed out.  I guess running really is important to me.  I just thought it was something that kept me healthy but it seems to be something that also keeps me sane.  I considered going to the gym to do something less painful but I haven’t been able to get myself out there.   I even took the day off to see the doctor and to stay off my feet to see if either would help.  Of course the doctor didn’t give me much hope.  He basically said to buy new running shoes, rest, and take ibuprofen.  I guess the only good news is that it’s not broken.  I got x-rays done this morning.  So, Brother, I probably won’t be joining you this Sunday on the course.  *sigh*  Stupid foot.
