Happy 30th, Jimmy!

It’s J’s big three-O today! Has it been almost 16 years since we met back at Whitney orientation?! My, how time flies! Happy Birthday, big guy. Have a great weekend and have a drink for me!!

Home Visits

Today was my day to make my long-over-due home visits to my “new-mom” friends. First stop was Westwood. I went to Patti’s apartment to meet her little girl, Katie, who is now 4 months old and has lots of hair. Holly also came so we all got a chance to hang out with the baby and catch up.

Next stop was Marie’s house. Her little boy, Cole, is 1 month old, has gained 2 pounds since I last saw him, and got to go on an outing with us! Marie got her first taste of sushi since her pregnancy and the toro was melty-good.

What I learned today: 1) babies fart, poop, eat, and sleep a lot, 2) their moms have a tough job, and 3) I’m really not ready to have my own.

One more thing…watch how fast you drive on Orange County streets. I got a speeding ticket on my way home from Marie’s for going 60 on a 45…booooooo.

I’m here. I’m OK.

After a long conversation with a close friend over the phone last night, I realized that I’ve become a little hermit in my “hermit world”. I suppose it hasn’t felt like it to me since I’ve been spending more time with my immediate family who also live in Orange County. It’s been so long since I have been able to just stop by at a friend’s house to say, “hey, what are you doing?” For those who aren’t a five-minute drive away haven’t heard much from us, have only rumors to go by, and some are hurt or concerned that they never hear from me or Jes. I’m here, guys. I’m OK. Jes and I have been living day-to-day and don’t use the phone much with the exception of calling to say “I’m coming home”. I suppose it’s time to reach out to friends just for the sake of reaching out. I guess I’ve taken them all for granted and assume that they’re all busy and the next time we see each other that all will be the same with just a few hours of catching up. I often wonder what they are all up to and my friends actually do wonder about me too. OK…I understand now. I’ll be a better friend.

Plane – Incoming!

Happy 30th Birthday, Huy! Last night Jes and I went down to San Diego to celebrate Huy’s Big Three-O. Dinner was at Indigo Grill in Little Italy, which was not bad. The ambience was cool and we got a big oval table up front. The food had a southwestern flare and all had some “kick” to them. They also brought Huy and the rest of us 3 large platters of desserts on the house at the end of the night. The coconut creme brulee was very yummy. Afterwards we all went to Airport Lounge where Huy reserved two big booths and invited a bunch of people he worked with. He has a lot of friends! Anyway, if you were part of his “guest list” you had no cover and got to make your own vodka or rum drinks at the booth. The coolest part of the lounge was that it was right under the flight path of planes landing in San Diego airport. You can go out to the patio and watch the plane fly right over you. They flew so low that it seemed like you could reach up and touch each one. I thought it was cool…I sat there having an Autistic moment saying, “plane!” with a big grin on my face each time one flew by.

Poor Conditions, Great Trip

Jes and I went to Snow Valley today with Jimmy and had a great time. Jimmy picked us up in his new Subie WRX (a very cool car) at 6-ish. We got there early enough to get a good parking spot and the mountain was slick and scratchy. After lunch, it got softer and more powdery. Although the conditions were not ideal (falling down wasn’t very pleasant), we still had a great time. Jes took his leisurely pace and my new skis were pretty fast. Jimmy hardly fell and got better and better as the day went on. The mountain is pretty small but it’s only 70 miles from home! That meant we were back this afternoon with enough time to take a long 4-hour nap before dinner. Oh yeah, I also had my first taste of McDonald’s in over a year. My half of the Big Mac, fries, and Coke was bliss.

Another red blanket!!

We had our annual Christmas Party last night with lots of food and booze. There was a nice showing of friends and we all had a fun time catching up on each other’s lives. This is what I love best about Christmas. Everyone is home and back together again. The gift exchange theme this year was red, which made for some interesting gifts. We had the standard $20 lottery scratchers and martini shakers along with 3 red blankets and a pair of stress boobs…Holly strikes again with the memorable gifts! Now I’m in a slump and sad that Christmas has come and gone so soon. It’s time to take down the lights and put away the ornaments and promise to do something I don’t want to for the next year.
