Happy 30th, Jes!!

Today, our very own Jesse is turning the big 3-0. We had a batman-themed party for him at the pool on Sunday and it was quite a production. There were decorations, party hats, goodie bags, and an ice cream cake. We even played some good ol’ fashioned games like Pin the Tail on the Donkey, had a balloon toss, and whacked away at a pinata. The prizes included mini bottles of liquor, lottery scratchers, and gift cards. Jes got a cool batman disc/dart shooter that even beams the batman signal. Later in the evening, we went searching all over Irvine and Costa Mesa for a place to eat and get something to drink. It’s ridiculous how early everything closes around here! We ended up at the TGIFridays in Costa Mesa, just like old times.
Jason also stayed with us for the long weekend. It was fun having the little brother home again. We spent much of Monday hanging out and shopping. We also went to Home Depot for some PVC pipes and connectors in order to build room dividers for my clinic. That was an interesting hour of playing with tools and trying to snap each other’s fingers off. Later we had dinner with Jes’ parents and grandmother in Cerritos.

You can call me Super Babysitter!

Marie had to go into the office today so she called me up this morning to see if I’d be willing to hang out with Cole for bit. I didn’t have anything planned so I thought, “sure, I’ll give it a try”. I got there around 12:30. Marie fed him before leaving and then it was just me and the baby.

It started out great at first. Cole was in a good mood having a full tummy and lots of energy. He hung out in this little walker/activity thing for about 30 mins while I worked on my website and chatted with Holly on the phone. I thought, “hey, this isn’t so bad”. But I thought too soon. He eventually got a little fussy so I had to hang up the phone and took him out of the walker and tried to entertain him.

Little by little, he got crankier and crankier until he was at a complete state of meltdown with tears and everything. I can tolerate crying like the best of them so I let him cry his poor little heart out for a good 20 minutes while I held him, swung him, bounced him, sang to him, and even changed his diaper. I eventually put him back in the walker to see if he could calm himself down but he was just too angry. He just cried and walked around in circles for a good minute. Then I gave in. I picked him up again and called Marie. I felt bad and thought there might be something wrong but by the time I got on the phone with her, he started to fall asleep on my shoulder. “Ah…all better. Into the crib you go!”

So Marie was able to work another 45 minutes and I got some quiet time to finish up my site until Marie came home. All is right with the world when you can get a good nap in. Gotta love the naps!

By the way, like the new beakatude site?

Let’s go!

With excitement over going to Thailand brewing, my dad and brother have decided to go with us. They booked flights on the same planes and everything! This is going to be awesome. We’ll have someone to help translate (my dad) and someone to drink with (my brother). It’s too bad that my mom can’t get the time off but now we have someone to look after Koa! 🙂

Preparation for Jes’ 3rd-ieth birthday party is underway. I went to Party City and Target with Marie and Cole yesterday for our weekly shopping excursion and bought lots of cool stuff. I was so surprised how everything starts to add up. But it’s his 30th so we’re going all out. Left on the list…1) order food, 2) buy some prizes, and 3) recruit people help me reserve the spot on Sunday morning. It’s just too bad that a bunch of friends will be out of town this weekend. They’re going to be missing out on a “batty” party! Hee Hee.

Phew, shopping is hard work.

I spent the day with Marie and Cole today. Marie picked me up and we went out for lunch and then shopped at IKEA for almost 2 hours. With just some fussiness, one feeding, and a nap, the afternoon went rather smoothly. It’s just funny how everything takes 1.5 times as long when you travel with an infant. There’s just so much to take care of and pay attention to. I don’t know how moms do it. Marie always says that it’s hard work just to get the to grocery store.

Strong work, boys!

This morning, Jesse, Jimmy, Pish, and Jay finished their first metric century, which is 100 km or 62 miles. The event was called the Cool Breeze Century and it started in Ventura, went up to Santa Barbara, and back to Ventura. While the boys rode, Eleen, Debbie, and I drove behind them, in front of them, stopped for some luch, met them at rest stops, and took lots of photos and video. We didn’t know where to start or how to get around with the lousy directions without a map so we hopped into my car that had GPS. The hills looked rather brutal but the boys performed well.
Afterwards, Jes and I went to my parents’ house for my dad’s 61st birthday party. Man, each time I go to one of these things, there seems to be more and more people I don’t know showing up. Each person brought a Thai dish or dessert and someone even brought Thai karaoke. I was so stuffed by the end of the night. They sure do know how to throw a BBQ! Happy Birthday, Daddy!

zzz…

Camp has started and I’m not used to this 100 mile/day commute. It’s really wearing me out. I’ve been getting up at 6 or 6:15 so I can get to work by 8 am every morning. On top of that, Jes’ cousin Amy and her two friends have been staying with us this week so we’ve been up and out later than usual too. Last night we went out for dinner and drinks in Newport Beach until about 1:30. I was feeling rather strong until about 12:45 when I decided to sit next to Jes in a booth to lean my head on his shoulder for a quick nap. That’s when the bouncer and the bar manager came up to us a couple seconds later to wake me up and tell me that I’d have to leave in order to keep them in compliance with their liquor license. Man! Well, we convinced them that I wouldn’t put my head down again and that we would finish their drinks in a timely manner. This kept us from having to be escorted out. Sheesh…what’s a girl gotta do to get some shut-eye?! Anyway, I was yawning all day today and fell asleep when I got home. It’s about 8:00 pm now and time for dinner. Then I can go back to sleep. Stupid camp. Only 2 weeks and 1 day left.
