Our little Taku-chan is a whoppin’ two years old today! To celebrate, we had a BBQ at my house complete with my mom’s Thai BBQ chicken, Auntie Kiyomi’s chicken salad, and Jesse’s teriyaki steak. Yum. The weather was especially warm today but made it great for firing up the grill and hanging out in the patio.
Cole got a bling shirt with gold chains and gold pacifier from his uncle Kenneth that made him look like one hard dude. Marie brought an ice cream birthday cake with Cars on it and Cole actually seemed to relish in his birthday moment. He even blew out his own candles after about the seventh attempt.
It was a nice family lunch with everyone together in one place. Happy Birthday Lil C!
Here are the photos.
After a month-long stay in December and another three weeks in February, Jes got accustomed to having his little brother close-by. It wasn’t until recently that we made the realization of how long he’d been living three time zones away and Jes has really missed having him around. They’ve always been close but after spending so much time together they seem closer than ever now. So, in April we’re going to New York to visit him and Jia for a whole week! I just booked the flights and made arrangements for the days I’d be missing at work. We’ll get to see their place in Queens, have a nice dinner in the city, and spend more than just 36 hours in New York. Since we’ll be there for a week, we’re going to try taking a drive down to Philly to visit Dayantha too. It’s only 105 miles away! Anyway, I’m looking forward to my Spring Break next month and it seriously can’t get here any slower.
By the way, I love how this photo looks like it was taken with a Holga. Old photos rock.
My mom got to have dinner with her kids last night. We took her to Koki’s Teppan and Sushi for some meat and entertainment. It was the usual chop chop fare with the cheesy strobe light antics of our chef in the big red hat. The unusual part of the dinner was being at the same table as a large group of high schoolers dressed to the nines. I think they were having their pre-dance dinner for some kind of winter formal going on that evening. Not only was our table filled with teenagers but another group of about 20 more arrived a little later and sat at the table next to us. It was kinda fun watching them as they sat two by two with their respective dates. The funny thing that we realized was that they were going to head over to their event with the distinct smell of grilled meat and seafood. I suppose it doesn’t matter as much if they’ll all hanging out with each other anyway. But can you imagine wearing a formal that you spent so much time picking out to have it end up smelling like Korean BBQ at the end of the night? Yum. Anyway, the food wasn’t very memorable but the experience was.
I babysat Cole this afternoon and we had a pretty good time. It was a sunny afternoon so we took a walk to the park and brought Koa with us. Cole played on the slide and got to run around on the grass. It’s been a while since he last came to this park and it’s great to see how much more he can do and say. He’s running, climbing, jumping, and doesn’t need the stroller anymore.
Once we got back to the house, he was super thirsty and had several crackers to go with his OJ. It sounded like Marie had a nice shopping trip to Mitsua and enjoyed some alone time browsing the store and looking through magazines. It looks like we all had a fun afternoon! Here are some photos from our afternoon at the park.
Jason and Jia married aboard the Camelot last night in Newport Beach. The day started with lots of last-minute activity and lots of photo-taking. The boys got dressed at our house while the girls got ready at The Fairmont. The hotel was quite nice and made a good backdrop for their formal photos. Later at the Camelot, family started to arrive and more photos were taken. As guests arrived, there was a lot of excitement in the air in anticipation of a lovely evening on the water. Jia looked so pretty and Jason was pretty pumped up. As soon as we departed the dock, the wedding ceremony began. There were plenty of cheers and photo flashes as the wedding party walked down the aisle. Dad’s sermon was lengthy but very touching and gaves us a couple chuckles. In the end, the youngest Lao got married and we gained a new family member. Afterwards, there were more photos, hors d’oeuvres, and then dinner. The end of the night was a little rushed with such a short amount of time left for the cake cutting, toasts, and a little dancing but we all had a great time. Great job on the toast, Jes. And congratulations to Jason and Jia! Here are the photos.
Oh yeah, Happy Chinese New Year!
