Back on the Road

Now that my lungs are back (sorta), I’ve put my tennies back on and started a new 15-week half marathon training program that I created.  Jia signed up for a race in New York and I hope to get the time off to join her. I’ve started slowly and my mileage is still pretty low but my lungs are thanking me right now. My legs, however, are screaming for more. Oh we’ll see how they feel in a couple weeks. They should be crying for mercy pretty soon.

The dog has also been going with me but I think he’s hurting today.  His tail was droopy last night and he puked up his kibble this evening.  I guess it’s a good thing I didn’t take him along tonight.

Mr. Grumpy Pants

Mad

Little J came over for dinner with his parents and boy oh boy have the Terrible Twos arrived early! Maybe he’s teething, maybe he’s still sick, or maybe he’s just plain grumpy. All I know is that he’s got the tantrum down solid and showed off his skills today. He clung to Michelle, cried intermittently for no reason, and didn’t eat as much as he usually does. My favorite move of the night was the Super Turtle Tantrum, which entails crying while curled up in a ball with his head down on the floor. I was too slow with the camera today and didn’t get a photo of it. He’s smart enough to even place his hand down between the floor and his head for extra padding.

Koa and Crying J

Koa would come by to console him but that just made him madder. I guess he doesn’t like his ears licked.  He apparently knows how to say he’s mad by giving out a big faker cry and saying “Maaaa!” (That’s a drawn out “mad” without the “d” at the end.)  I couldn’t help laughing at him and it was pretty cute but his parents are not happy with this turn of events.  Hopefully this will be a short phase in their life.  But in the meantime, if you guys need to drop him off for a few hours, holla at me.  I can take the whining.

7 hours later…

…we arrived in Southern California.  There were rumors of possible snow along the Grapevine so we decided to take it easy and drive down Hwy 101.  It’s such a beautiful drive but takes a tad longer than I-5.  Koa also came along and got to ride in the back seat and then in Jes’ lap in the front seat.  We stopped several times along the way for some shopping, pee breaks, and food.  The drive went smoothly with no traffic and just a little bit of rain here and there.  Now it’s time to go to bed.  I’ve got a whole line-up of appointments, meet-ups, lunches, and dinners for the weekend.  Let the holidays begin!!

Lam Housewarming

On Saturday, we went to the Lams’ to warm up their new house in Redwood City. It’s a cute 3-bedroom house complete with a backyard and lots of indoor space. Koa got to come along and got to check out Kona’s new home too. They had Street Fighter for Wii with arcade controllers for a true retro experience. Congratulations to Jen, Kevin, and Kona!!

Here are the photos.

Project 5: Super Duper Stripey Scarf

About a month ago I started knitting again.  Since I needed to practice the basics, I decided to make my first scarf.

Koa was the recipient of this super-duper stripey scarf and it makes him look so handsome.  Yes, I know he has fur and doesn’t actually need one but he’s the only model I have a the moment.

Hot Shower

We’re back in SF and I’m actually happy to be home.  Belize was awesome but there’s something about having a nice hot shower, cold temps, dry air, clean clothes, and my own bed that makes home so great.  Our accommodations in Caye Caulker and San Pedro didn’t have hot water for the showers so bathing was kept to a minimum.  Granted the warm temperatures made it much easier to tolerate the cool water but you just don’t come out feeling as squeaky clean.

Our flights home went smoothly.  We got on the 8:00 am water taxi back to Belize City.  Got a cab to the airport and boarded our first flight at noon.  Two hours later, we landed in Miami where we had a 4-hour layover.  The flight from Miami to SF was a little scary at first considering they’re in the middle of a little hurricane.  I got a pretty awesome lightning show as we took off and started climbing to cruising altitude.  I slept for half of the 5-hour flight and we got home around midnight.  The Sokol-Juns left their car at the airport and we took it home.  That was convenient!

So, it turns out my mom had a fantastic week in SF.  She did some sightseeing, shopping, and a whole lot of hanging out.  It appears that the Magical House had followed her here because the house was clean and the laundry was done too.  Thanks Mommy!!  Koa seemed thrilled to have us home.  When we walked in, he swung the bedroom door open and ran out to greet us.  Funny dog.

Thank goodness it’s only Saturday night.  I still have two more days before going back to work!  Once I sort and upload my photos I will be sure to share.
