All in!

I was sick on Friday but worked from home. Crazy heart medicine is making me lightheaded again. I also learned how to play poker as I wrote my reports. Haha. On Saturday, we had the family over for a BBQ and Texas Hold’em. Pish and Deb brought their tabletop and we opened our poker chip set from Costco. I got kicked out of the game early but Jes won the pot! Sweet. We also had our first rain of the season on Sunday. The wormies came out again and Koa looked confused.

Gotcha!

I took Koa to the dog park today…he had a good time chasing a bunch of “Santa’s Little Helpers” and wrestling with an Australian Shepherd. I thought that he’d enjoy being in the “large dog” yard but once we got in there, he turned into a loner. Hm…I guess he really is a small dog. At home, he caught his first fly in mid-air today…it was amazing. Oh yeah…my mom has agreed to make mango and sticky rice for Saturday’s BBQ. Sweet.

More jellybeans please.

This past weekend in San Jose was pretty crazy. First of all, traveling with the family is pretty interesting. I guess I’ve been traveling so much lately that I forgot how “exciting” it can be for most people to fly on a plane. It was Ishya and Billy’s wedding weekend and boy…it really did take up the whole weekend. The wedding was on Saturday morning. There was a Thai ceremony on Sunday morning and a Chinese banquet on Sunday night. We literally took the last flight back to LAX last night and I didn’t get home until 2am this morning. Whew!! Ishya looked beautiful and Billy was very emotional. The girls were dressed in cranberry red, lunch consisted of filet and shrimp, and we had enough jellybeans to last the rest of the year. Overall, it was a very organized affair and us riff-raffs even got to help out at the sign-in table.

Happy Birthday, Jonah!

Went to Chicago this past weekend. At first I thought I was going to miss my flight but it turned out rather well. Jesse surprised me with an upgrade to First Class!! It was sweeeeet! I had a nice meal, free wine, lots of legroom, and they even hung up my coat and addressed me as Ms. Lao. Haha…I could get used to this. Once in Chicago we met up with Yong, Helen, Dayantha, Victor, and Susie. We all stayed in Hoffman Estates. We had a nice time hanging out at the house on Saturday in our pajamas and playing poker. Actually, all weekend we were either playing poker, watching poker on ESPN, or watching “Rounders” – a movie about poker. I also got to visit Linda and Shaun in Rockford! Linda had her baby early and I was there just in time to see the new addition to their family! His name is Jonah and is a little over 5 pounds. Jes and I got to hold the little tyke and it was pretty scary. He was so tiny and could barely open his eyes. Congratulations, Linda and Shaun!!

OK…now it’s my birthday.

Today is my 29th birthday. It’s also my brother’s 25th birthday. Some would think that celebrating our birthdays together would be a bummer but it’s actually pretty cool. This year is no different. We had dinner at California Beach Sushi in Newport Beach where they played loud music and served all-you-can-eat sushi. Jes even stayed in town to spend my last birthday in my 20’s with me. We had the immediate family, Pa Jim, Marie, Kenji, Kenneth, Pish, Debbie, and Cat come too! It was nice to have everyone together again. Happy Birthday, Brother!
