Tricked again!

Back in May, Jes and I attended an Irvine Planning Commission meeting to oppose an incoming ARCO project in our neighborhood. We just don’t think a gas station/car wash/mini-mart is really necessary in this location. Couldn’t we get one or two more restaurants instead? Well, it got approved and I became rather skeptical of the process.
Now it’s July and in hopes that our petition of 258 signatures would help this time around, I went to the Irvine City Council meeting last night to see if our appeal would go through. I’m so stupid. We got there at 7:00 pm, and sat through speaker after speaker. It took me 3.5 hours to figure out that they really don’t care, again. I didn’t get home until 10:30 and was pissed as ever! *sigh* So much for trying to break out of the bubble that is Irvine.

Lance wins #7

I guess he’s all done! He got his 7th victory in le Tour de France and he’s ready to sit and hang out for a bit. This year’s race was fun to watch and I’m happy to see that some of his teammates did well too. Good job, guys!
In other news, I spent all day Saturday in traffic school. *sigh* I had to do it eventually. I got my ticket way back in April! Anyway, it was my first time and it wasn’t as painful as I had expected. The guy tried to entertain us with jokes, stories, political opinions, and games like dodgeball and family feud. Interesting. Now I’m in the clear for a while and will have to watch my speeding for another 18 months.
Last night, we had dinner with my family last night at my cousin’s house. It was his 30th bday last weekend and his parents and sister came down from San Jose to celebrate this weekend. We had all of his favorite Thai foods and boy was it yummy. My mom even made some mango and sticky rice…mmm.

one of my favorites

I was cleaning up my photo files and found some pictures that I scanned a long time ago. This has to be one of my favorite photos of my mom. She’s the one on the tricycle…my tricycle. It’s funny how she’s still a kid at heart. She has a nice collection of stuffed animals lined up by her bed, loves to go to Disneyland, and she still tries to strangle, pinch, and bite me. I love it.

makes you wanna go someday

Our neighbor’s friend is in France right now and sent these photos home.
Coverage of the Tour de France on OLN has been great and it’s probably the best way to watch the Tour. However, there must be something special about camping out for days on the side of a country road awaiting the long train of cyclists to zoom by you in just a few seconds. It’s Lance’s last year before retiring and it looks like it’s going to be a good one so far!

Busy Saturday. Lazy Sunday.

After my run on Saturday, I had a MASSIVE headache. It was probably a combination of dehydration and strain from not wearing sunglasses on the run. I took a nap and finally got enough energy to crawl into the car to go to Dayantha’s house. Once I got there, I think the medicine or caffeine that I took kicked in just in time and was in good enough shape for the pool party that Ti threw for Thilan’s bday. We got to eat some food, hang out by the pool, and watch the kids (and Dayantha) hit the pinata. Later in the evening we stopped by my cousin’s house for his 30th bday party and hung out for a bit while they played a 3-table poker tournament.
At 10, went met up with the Tranandos again at Cohiba Club in Long Beach. It wasn’t bad except for the stupid $20 cover. To also flirted her way into the VIP room and got th rest of us in too. The room wasn’t so special. However, Dayantha did notice that there were a lot more girls than guys in there. The dj sucked but we got to drink and dance until they kicked us out. Victor and Susie met up with us after their wedding and we all ate at Denny’s like old times. I can’t believe we didn’t get home until 4:30 in the morning. Whew…it’s been a while since we’ve done that. Sunday was a certainly a day of rest. We got up really late. Jes didn’t go for his 7am bike ride. We had Spam and eggs for breakfast. Watched the Tour (awesome stage, by the way) all afternoon. The brother came over to fat out with us for the rest of the evening. Topped off the evening with a BBQ and beer in the jacuzzi. Is it time to go back to work already?!
