worth the wait

The Jack Johnson concert last night at Irvine Meadows really fun! We bought tickets back in March and it felt like August would never come. But August 7th arrived and it was worth the wait. The weather was pleasant, the venue was right next to our house, our seats weren’t too shabby, and Jack rocked. It certainly wasn’t a bad way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon. Once I get some freetime, I’ll post my bootleg video clips of the concert. I actually captured video clips of “Taylor”, “Do You Remember?”, and some others. 🙂

…and then there were two.

Jesse usually goes for a long bike ride on Sundays and this one wasn’t any different…up at 6, eat oatmeal and a banana, get the bike ready, and wait for the others to arrive. However, this ride started out with more than the usual people. In addition to my cousin, his friend Mike, and our neighbor Jay, they went out with our other neighbor Alan and his buddies. So when they left, it was a nice group of about 10 of them heading out to Huntington Beach. Some did just a flat ride and turned around and others stayed with the pack and headed up to Back Bay. Once they got to Santiago Canyon, however, there were only two guys left. Jesse and Pish took the Santiago Canyon hills for the remainder of the 60-mile ride with Jes flatting on the last 5 miles. Not bad for Team Hack. Good job, guys!

zzz…

Camp has started and I’m not used to this 100 mile/day commute. It’s really wearing me out. I’ve been getting up at 6 or 6:15 so I can get to work by 8 am every morning. On top of that, Jes’ cousin Amy and her two friends have been staying with us this week so we’ve been up and out later than usual too. Last night we went out for dinner and drinks in Newport Beach until about 1:30. I was feeling rather strong until about 12:45 when I decided to sit next to Jes in a booth to lean my head on his shoulder for a quick nap. That’s when the bouncer and the bar manager came up to us a couple seconds later to wake me up and tell me that I’d have to leave in order to keep them in compliance with their liquor license. Man! Well, we convinced them that I wouldn’t put my head down again and that we would finish their drinks in a timely manner. This kept us from having to be escorted out. Sheesh…what’s a girl gotta do to get some shut-eye?! Anyway, I was yawning all day today and fell asleep when I got home. It’s about 8:00 pm now and time for dinner. Then I can go back to sleep. Stupid camp. Only 2 weeks and 1 day left.

hanging out at home

I had a pleasant Saturday. Not only did I sleep in until 9:30 (and postponed my long run ’til tomorrow) but hung out at home all day. Koa got a nice bath, I got some stuff at Costco for Camp, and Marie/Kenji/Cole came over in the evening. Now it’s time to go to bed early so I can run 16 miles tomorrow.

They’re not getting MY money.

With movie ticket prices so high nowadays, it’s amazing that going to see a movie is still a popular pastime. Last night, Jes and I were having dinner at Houston’s and saw the current movies up on the billboard at the theatre nearby. I hadn’t heard of more than half of them and haven’t seen any of them. Then we tried to recount the last movie we saw in a theatre and we couldn’t really remember. The last movies that I remember seeing in a theatre were Rundown (a movie with The Rock in it), Finding Nemo, and Better Luck Tomorrow. I don’t know which one came out last. I don’t think we even saw the last Lord of the Rings movie on a big screen, which would have been worth the money. We’ve contemplated going to see Return of the Sith but just haven’t made it yet. If we wait any longer, I should be able to get it through Netflix soon. That might be a better route…George Lucas already has too much money to burn.

one more day, just one more day

This month has been crazy at work! What happened to good ol’ July? It used to consist on summer school treatments, no meetings or reports due, fun outdoor activities, and winding down to August. Well, that hasn’t been the case here and I’m just about to lose it. Fortunately, I’ve forced myself to sit down and finish my reports, make my follow-up calls, and take care of all the paperwork that could easily be put off until Fall. Tomorrow is my last day of school and the prelude to Camp. I just need to keep chuggin’ along until tomorrow afternoon when say “Sayonara” to Portable 1 for a month.
Unfortunately, I have Camp to deal with. It’s my last summer running this zany show and it’s going to be a doozy. I’m especially looking forward to the 100-mile commute each day! Haha. It’s really not that bad. At least I can drive again. I think I’m just ready for a vacation. Maybe Kurt Rambis will pay another visit…GO LAKERS!
