I just had to do this.

I couldn’t resist this morning.  KK was riding the tricycle up and down the sidewalk and it reminded me of when I used to do the same thing.  Then it dawned on me that I could recreate the photo that my mom and I took when I was KK’s age.  So, that’s what we did.  And then my mom wanted in on the action so we had her get on and we took another for old times’ sake.  We all got a good chuckle out of it.  KK was the only one who was a little confused and wondering why everyone wanted to ride her tricycle.

Kanom Krok

IMG_1003My mommy made me one of my favorite things to eat: Kanom Krok.  It’s basically two different mixtures of coconut milk poured into a special cast iron pan topped with green onions.  They come out hot and crispy on the outside and custard-like on the inside.  It’s a combination of sweet and savory – similar to that of Thai coconut sticky rice.

IMG_0977I think I post these every time I’m home but this time I paid attention. Apparently, my mom just follows the instructions on the back of the rice flour package but it’s all in Thai.

IMG_0983So, I took notes and photos so that one day when I get one of her pans from her to take home with me, I can make them for myself.  Yum yum!

Home for the Holidays

IMG_0960We drove down to Cerritos today and the best part of the drive was seeing all the green grass everywhere.  These past two weeks of rain really did something good for California.  Our trip started at 9am with one big lunch stop and we arrived at the Magical House at 5pm.  It was like a full work day!

1st Day of Winter Break

IMG_0896I don’t remember the last time I took 2 weeks off work.  Aside from maternity leave, I just started the longest vacation since I started my job here in the Bay Area.  After such as hectic work week, I really earned my time off.  Today was a nice relaxing day doing what we always do on Saturday – go to the Farmer’s Market for brunch.  The rest of the day was at home.  I even took a nap!!  WHUT?!

On the agenda so far:

Mon 12/22: Drive to Cerritos

Wed 12/24: Disneyland with the family

Thurs 12/25 – Sun 12/28: Puerto Vallarta, Mexico with the family

Don’t have any other plans after that…we don’t even know when we’ll be driving back up.  Aaaahhh…it’s nice to have so much time to do nothing.

Family Photos

DSC_5797I’ve become the unofficial family photographer for my friends up here and it’s so much fun.  This morning, I took a few photos of Vivian and her parents before Sophie’s birthday party. The overcast lighting was perfect!!

DSC_5863At the end of the party, I got a cute shot of Sophie with her parents.

Rainy Week

IMG_0553It’s been raining since last weekend and has been such a nice change.  Fortunately, it seems to rain most at night while we’re sleeping and during the middle of the day while I’m indoors at work.  The commute has been relatively easy and I have no complaints.  On Thursday, the rain stopped for a bit and I was able to go outside for a solo run for the first time in about a month.  There was a full moon that night, which made it an even more pleasant run.

IMG_0596On Friday evening, we thought the rain had stopped for a while but as we were out at Union Square, it started to rain again.  I still got to see the tree lit up and there were lots of people still on the ice rink.

IMG_0586Before heading home, we went all the way up to the top floor of macy’s to get a better view of the tree and rink from The Cheesecake Factory bar area (we were standing behind the “m” on the macy’s sign.  Christmastime in SF is really pretty.
